Well, I guess it's official. breakingnews.iol.ie/entertainment/story.asp?j=176258548&p=y76z59z54While I certainly don't consider myself a techno-geek, I have always been a Star Wars fan since I was a kid (Star Trek, however, never sank its teeth in me). I have mixed feelings about this. I'm all for it if they can do a mini-series on the scale of Band of Brothers, which rivals the best war movies Hollywood has ever produced. Or if they can accomplish a tv series that would rival the new Battlestar Galactica. Hopefully it doesn't turn out to be a turd that further tarnishes the entire Star Wars saga.

This has great potential, for disaster, or for sucess. The fact that George Lucas is actually writing it encourages me. Its his baby, and he doesn't need the money. He'd rather not do it at all then do it wrong. It'd be a completely different story if he had licenced the name/story to someone else.

Ok so I'm a nerd :-) Since Trek went there's not been much in the way of good Sci Fi on the box (UK) BSG is a let down so lets hope GL makes a good show of it and does not drift off into a world of "Make it to sell and sod the fans" In the past good Sci fi minis have gone way of the tracks intruding stupid story lines after 3 seasons, Look at SG1 this series reminds me of the last 6 just the bad guys have been called a diffrent name but in all but that its a mirror of seasons 1-5 sorry I find that lazy ansd lame.... OUCH!................... fell of me soap box..

Three Words, Garp: Babylon 5, and Firefly. Get the box DVD sets and then the movies. Yep, the series are over, but the DVD's are available and fun fun fun.
And the new BSG is wonderful--dark, entertaining, unexpected--not the cheesy predictable feel good series of the 80's! I can't wait for the next season to start in July (I think it is).
Judgment reserved for SW the TV series. Even with Lucas, $$$ controls everything. He won't throw away money if he can't get series approval to keep it going, which will depend on the ratings and advertising rates, not the quality and not who is paying to make it.

www.scifi.com/scifiwire/index.php?category=1&id=35025Star Wars Show To Run Long?
George Lucas' longtime producing partner Rick McCallum told the BBC that a proposed Star Wars TV series will run for at least 100 episodes.
Speaking to BBC Radio 1, McCallum said the show's writing team would soon be meeting to start on the project, which would begin filming in 2008 and be ready the same year. "Hopefully, if we can make it work and everybody's excited and watches it, we will keep on going," McCallum told the BBC.
The series will be set between Episode III and IV of the film saga and will cover the 20 years in the life of Luke Skywalker growing up. McCallum said there would be "a whole bunch of new characters" and the series would be "much more dramatic and darker." He added that it was unlikely any of the stars of the movies would be involved in the TV series.
A typical prime-time network TV show airs about 22 episodes in a season.

Local cable here does not offer Sci-Fi...we have Space Channel but all that carries is crappy B movies etc...Is the new BSG DVD worth buying?? Well, that's all relative, of course. If you really want to see them, and you can't wait for SciFi channel to be added to your cable system (if ever), and you don't have a friend or public library who has them on VHS or DVD to lend to you, and if you will watch them more than once, then Yes. Renting them one by one from the local movie store would cost far too much. I watched the Babylon-5 DVD's (5 seasons of 22 episodes each) with my kids last summer (their first time, my 3rd) and they all want to redo them this summer, but I said we'll wait another year and then do them, and instead we'll do the Rumpole DVD's this summer as a family. Yummm! Can't wait! If you do want to buy, check out the used/new sellers/resellers at amazon.com (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/search-handle-url/ref=br_ss_hs/102-8981920-0023327?platform=gurupa&url=index%3Ddvd&field-keywords=battlestar+galactica&Go.x=11&Go.y=7&Go=Go) and at half.com or ebay.com (http://search.half.ebay.com/battlestar-galactica_W0QQmZmovies) for best deals. There was a BSG mini-series of 6 hrs. ($16/$18 U.S. used, plus shipping), and then season 1 came out (13 episodes, $40/$49 + sh.), and now season 2 FIRST HALF is out (10 episodes, $32/$40 + sh). Read the reviews listed for the mini-series and seasons 1 and 2 (first half) to see if you think you'd be interested in shelling out the dough. Season 2's second half just concluded (10 more episodes) but they're not for sale yet. So, these are a little on the pricey side, to me. There are fan sites out there to discuss BSG or to learn more info. One such site is www.pegasusgalaxy.com/battlestar-galactica/index.php, but if you don't want spoilers, be careful how far you read ahead of what you've watched.
