Never ask what kind of computer a person uses--if it's a Mac, he'll say; if not, why embarrass him?

So you folks will have to wait until at least 2007 for features my Mac OS has had since 2001. Tch, Tch. Life just isn't fair. money.iwon.com/ht/nw/bus/20060321/hl_bus-n21350258.htmlSEATTLE (Reuters) - Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) said on Tuesday it plans to delay the consumer launch of its much-anticipated Windows Vista operating system to January 2007 from its earlier target of the second half of 2006, sending its shares down nearly 3 percent. Microsoft plans to launch a product for corporate customers in November and then roll out Windows Vista for consumers after the holiday shopping season, Jim Allchin, co-president of the company's Platforms & Services Division, said on a conference call. Vista is the first major overhaul of Windows since Microsoft rolled out Windows XP nearly five years ago. Microsoft said Vista is delayed because it wants to improve overall quality, particularly in security, and that PC makers didn't want the operating system introduced in the middle of holiday sales, because a new version would create instability in the market. Redmond, Washington-based Microsoft is planning six core offerings of the Vista operating system, targeting how people use computers instead of PC hardware specifications. Three will be aimed at consumers, two at business users, and a stripped-down version for emerging markets. Unlike the current Windows XP, there will be no versions designed specifically for advanced 64-bit computing, multimedia computers or Tablet PCs. Windows, which is found in about 90 percent of all computer desktops, is one of Microsoft's biggest cash cows. Shares of Microsoft fell 2.6 percent to $27.02 in extended trade. In regular Nasdaq trade, the stock fell 15 cents, or less than 1 percent, to close at $27.74. ©2005 Reuters Limited.

Out of curiosity, since I'm not familiar with Mac OS, what types of special features am I missing out on?

Guess if I don't have them and haven't needed them , I'm not really MISSING them am I ? Yeah, that's what you all said prior to the release of "Windows," and yet hordes flocked to the stores at midnight when it first became available and now you all wouldn't go back to DOS for anything. Little do you know that you've simply been using crippled versions of the Mac GUI. As for those features......Spotlight, Widgets, easy RSS, tremendous OS stability, easy Force Quit, etc. Oh, if only there were, oh, I don't know, some sort of, uhm, thingy a Windows user could employ to, oh, I don't know, sort of search the internet for articles about Mac OS X (or 10.4) and Windows Vista, or could go to some sort of free on-demand resevoir of info from Apple or Microsoft COMpanies, but, of course, there isn't, sadly.

Must I do EVERYTHING for you? Try arstechnica.com/journals/microsoft.ars/2006/1/5/2359. Or try www.winsupersite.com/showcase/winvista_beta1_vs_tiger_01.asp and www.winsupersite.com/showcase/winvista_beta1_vs_tiger_02.asp., or www.eweek.com/article2/0,1895,1842175,00.asp. Or try the COMpany websites: www.apple.com/macosx/ and www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/features/default.mspx. As for those features, as I briefly mentioned in part earlier......Spotlight, Dashboard with Widgets, Expose' for easy windows management, Safari browser with easy RSS, tremendous OS stability, excellent security, easy Force Quit, etc. But those are just with the CURRENT Mac OS. When Vista FINALLY ships, it will be behind the NEXT Mac OS, Leopard, due out then or sooner, too!!! Folks, do not try being me at home.....I only make this look easy!!!!

I was on each page immediately before posting, and I copied the URL's directly and pasted them directly. For the first, the period at the end of the sentence is messing it up, so just use: arstechnica.com/journals/microsoft.ars/2006/1/5/2359For www.winsupersite.com/showcase/winvista_beta1_vs_tiger_02.asp, it works here for me. But, here's the opening paragraph: "In part one of my comparison of Windows Vista Beta 1 and Mac OS X 10.4 "Tiger," I looked at three key aspects of each system: Look and feel, desktop search, and data visualization and organization. For the most part, OS X came out well ahead of Windows Vista, as you'd expect, since it's a polished finished product. Vista, meanwhile, is all knees and elbows, an awkward teenager on its way to maturity. Microsoft will iron out the details, I'm sure, but the end result will likely not change much. Specifically, OS X will always be elegant, and Windows will almost certainly lag behind in the fit and finish department. The only questions are how much Vista will improve when compared to previous Windows versions, and whether it will be enough to keep customers from moving to OS X." For the fourth, the forum software is messing it up--it doesn't like the comma in the URL, so copy the whole line and then paste the line into your browser, and don't just click on it from the forum: www.eweek.com/article2/0,1895,1842175,00.asp For the last one, go to www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/ and then click on the Features button. The Windows Vista website, naturally, has to do things differently and redirect you from within a webpage rather than giving you a new one with its own URL. And I don't even have to try to know the Apple link works flawlessly! As to being an easy mark for your teasing, yeah, I plead guilty. Glad you're still willing to let me rant and rave anyway! Thanks.
