Anyone else see that this flash game got some serious negative press on CNN yesterday? Can't imagine why...

Our invasion of the northern states starts verrrrrrrry soon. Have no fear, we are not interested in the south...too much inbreeding and toothless sorts, you can keep it!

Our invasion of the northern states starts verrrrrrrry soon. At least Canadians can speak English, an important skill for anyone wanting to work the drive-thru at McDondalds!

Our invasion of the northern states starts verrrrrrrry soon. At least Canadians can speak English, an important skill for anyone wanting to work the drive-thru at McDondalds! Southern visitors: "Ju wont fry wit dat?" Some Northern visitors: "Ju wont fry wit dat, eh?" Some other Northern visitors: "Ju won't fry wit dat? Merde!" CNN wouldn't see any humor in it? Gasp!!! Inconceivable!!! My sister sent me a Hah-Hah video from CNN of the annual Easter egg hunt at the White House, with the Easter Bunny being unexpectedly shot by the VP (who was dressed in hunting clothes and a wicked homicidal maniac grin--the VP, not the bunny). My sister later wrote to warn that she thinks the email she sent had a trojan virus in it. I told her in return that I was more concerned with those who want to think that the VP would shoot into a crowd of children to kill a 6 foot adult dressed in a goofy Easter Bunny outifit.

Oh, and perhaps we shouldn't miss the underlying message behind the border crossing game. There were too many to shoot, and they were too fast and slippery, with the provided in-game weapons. Just like at the real border, we need the right tools, including the will to use them, to stop this invasion.

Speaking of border problems...some people here have their knickers in a knot because come December next year all people entering the U.S via land will require a passport (the same goes for Yankees entering Canada)...as it stands now, picture ID will do...I think most of the problem lies with (but they won't admit it) being lumped in with Latin countries...and oddly enough the price of a passport will jump to $200 per person and is only good for 3 yrs. I imagine the cost of a U.S. passport will also increase. Hmmmmmm...security or cash cow?

....I imagine the cost of a U.S. passport will also increase. Hmmmmmm...security or cash cow? It already did go up, back in 2002 Fall, from $45 ($25, children) + $15 "execution" fee = $60, to $97 (including a new security surcharge), but it is good for 10 years (minors, 5 years). I, my wife, and my kids all got ours (wifey was doing so for 2nd time, as she had been to Europe as a teen) right before the increase. Haven't left the country, though, so it's still unstamped. Kids need an official governmental ID for taking SAT exams, for flying on commercial planes, and so on, in advance of the time they get driver's licenses (19 y.o. has a learner's permit only, 17 and 15 y.o. have nothing). (What? Oh, the lack of licenses. Well, I never got my D.L. until I was a sophomore in College, and I didn't get my first car until I was in my medical internship 6 years after that, so why should my kids have it any different!?) Passport Fees per the US Dept. of State Website: travel.state.gov/passport/get/fees/fees_837.htmlMarch 8, 2005 Non-Refundable Age 16 and older: The passport application fee is $55. The security surcharge is $12. The execution fee is $30. The total is $97. Under Age 16: The passport application fee is $40. The security surcharge is $12. The execution fee is $30. The total is $82. Anyone can get a Driver's License, and many illegal aliens have multiple licenses in multiple names, so the passport to come or go is, I think, a great idea to protect US borders and ID bad actors.

Here's the odd thing for me...I have been traveling back and forth to the U.S for 5 years on an expired passport that has yet to be detected! Oops... I think the passports are a good idea, just the cost bugs me and the length of time that they are good for. The other thing that has to happen is a universal computer system for all immigration/law enforcement agencies worldwide (at least from countries we consider friendly and competent)...I am starting to rant...ciao
