forget that...Canadian Tax Agency would be kicking U in the Ba*** to get their fair share!..would be taxed as a bonus so deduct 50-55% off the top. Then you would have to claim the balance as income come April so they get another cut..if the show went through the right channnels to begin with.Imagine that..winning and having Income tax deducted up here..to have them tax U again in the spring...may as well lose.you'd be furhter off running as an MP...get 1 term and then get the tax free "retirement" money every year. You would get more in the long then that show would pay Woody!

Wow, are taxes really that bad up in Canada? You would get taxed twice on the same money?
Winning big amounts like that here you would pay about 40% once.

Probably 55%. I'll run it through Mac TurboTax later and assume 3 dependents and see. And if you lived in a school district, city, and/or state with income taxes, you could add to that up to 15% more confiscated. And when you die, heirs don't get it all if it's over a certain amount (death tax), that amount rising thanks to GW and Republicans these last few years. Forced Redistribution of Wealth. AKA liberal philosophy.

We have heavy taxes here. No tax if you win the lottery though, nor if you win big at the casino...never had the luck to win either! I once won a free bag of chips...

No tax on casino winings in Canada? WOW! I have had to visit the IRS window in Vegas more than a few times. I HATE that... I have always felt that casino winning should be tax free.

well the Casino's basically are Crown Corporations(in a way). www.olgc.ca/about/economic_benefits/lotteries.jspthis is a government of Ontario website...so they don't need to tax what they already have their hands into.Pretty much every province has this style of lottery commision site so this is where alot of funding comes from for infrastruture projects plus hospitals -addiction help(sort of ironic they use money from this to help people quit doing this) However if you win an extremly large purse...the interest is classed as income and is fully taxable, or if you give an of it away...they are taxed. So only the original winner/ticket holder is tax free on the original purse. Here is the excerpt I was looking for $36 million to problem gambling was spent in 2004-05.
