True vin but if you already own a diesel it can be quite cost effective.
My trucks are both older and paid for, so I do not mind dropping in a diesel motor and converting it. I can do most of it myself for not very much $$.

I can do most of it myself for not very much $$. Very true... both of mine are paid for too. But I have no ability to replace a motor. My skills in auto ownership are in buying/selling/driving versus repairing I wish I did have that skill though. The good news in my young brother in law is currently training to earn is mechanic certification, so I will have an "in" in this area too

You could probably double your fuel millage by going diesel in your truck vin.

I agree, but since my truck is an '04 with just 34K miles, I would not swap engines. I am considering trading it in though on a 2500 series diesel. My truck is paid for and I should be able to swap it for around three thousand $$$. If so this would make the swap reasonable - assuming I can find an '04 in the excellent shape mine is in.

an 04 diesel would be barley broken in. LOL another nice thing about diesel motors they last a lot longer than gas motors.
