RAID and automatic scheduled backups are your friend! Unfortunally, most of us have to suffer at least one bad loss before we get motivated enough to set it up.

ok i got more information, my hard drive is ok, but while testing my computer it caught fire and now is toasted.took computer to a different place, they are going to build me a new one and said my hard drive is in tact and will be able to download it to the new computer. as to which i WILL be creating a back up disc ASAP. it was the mother board that was causing the problem.

Fire!
Daffy, you should at least look into getting an external hard drive to back up the more important personal stuff like family photos or other documents worth saving.
They are dropping in cost more every day.

Daffy. Do not let the feathers accumulate in your cpu and psu cooling fans and it would not catch fire. LOL

Never ask what kind of computer a person uses--if it's a Mac, he'll say; if not, why embarrass him?

ok...ok...ok i get the picture on the mac stuff but when i said i should just go out and buy a mac, i got the LOOOK, form the wife, which we all know means "do what ever you want "doesn't mean exactly that. so i got new comp and now it's running on the old hard drive down load and yes i will be getting an external drive, as well the feathers weren't transferred over to new puter so everything should be all right.(pin feathers crossed)
