Yes they can take the plate out after the bone has re calcified then you have to re-heal. Probably looking at 5 - 6 months of recovery including re surgery and rehab. I feel for ya.. being on the injured reserve list sux.. Boredom will now be your worst enemy.

I did this last Saturday..got my referal to the surgeon for Thursday and he said he's doing it Sat morn...was supposed to be laid off..but am on S&A now...they are figuring 3-6 months..

When I got in my accident last March, I got disability from my insurance company. I got 80% of my wage, but only up to $250 a week. I made 3 times that in a week, I don't know how they expect people to pay their bills if they are living a lifestyle that matches their income. Luckily I had a lifestyle of like 100 a week, but I'm sure that hurts many many people each year, DS you may have something to say about that too. That crash has been the low point in my whole life. I can't work, I stupidly quit the job I had back then, because I was gonna be let go. I thought it would look better if I quit, but I can't get disability anymore, and can't find a job that doesn't destroy my back. And now with the economy slowly failing, companies are gonna be conserving and it is gonna be even harder to find a job. At least I get free chiropractic care out of it...

My problem did not stem from quitting my job, or my aflac benefits running out. My problem comes from the offending party's insurance trying to starve me out so that I will take crackers instead of steak for a settlement. My wife and I both come from a very poor up bringing and know how to skimp by. But now that I have a lawyer involved I am hoping for some resolution to this. You would have been much better off to let your job fire you if you were going to file suite. Mine did for not being able to return to work or be able to preform my duties. You may consider talking to your Dr. If they will certify you as unable to preform your previous level of work, you can apply for SSD and/or Vocational rehab.
