My english teacher just had us write a persuasive essay... he is a lib, and the class knows it. so I wrote my essay against Obama, this was before the election but I kept forgetting to post it here. I would like to know if I got something wrong, or if it all around sucks. at first I tried to attack each presidential candidate equally, and then as the due date drew closer, I got annoyed and dropped all pretense of attacking them equally. here it is
(can someone either tell me how to make this a quote or edit it so that it is a quote)
The Presidential Election of 2008 really worries me, as it is the best example of a choice between the lesser of two evils I have ever seen. I dislike the candidates for reasons that most people have not thought about. A few examples of what I have heard against the presidential candidates are “I am voting for Obama because McCain is a crazy old man”, “I am voting for Obama because he will be the first black president is history”, and “I am voting for McCain because Obama is Islamic”. Many of the factors that most people vote on have almost nothing to do with the candidates views on major issues, and what appear to be minor issues. I do not care about age, ethnicity, gender, any of the things that people foolishly think matter. I see past the black man in Obama, I see the inexperienced socialist who knows how to twist words and weave illusions of utopia in his speeches. I don't see McCain only as the Vietnam POW who didn't crack under torture, I see him as the moderate who doesn't even try to slow our steady march towards socialism
Now John McCain is an interesting fellow. He was a Navy pilot who was shot down in North Vietnam and was a POW for several months. He knows war, but some say that he has had too much experience with war. His opponents say that war destabilized him, and that he is war mongering in his old age. He would not get us into completely unnecessary wars, but he will probably push wars. But we should look to the bright side; that very few terrorist groups will have much hope to attack America with impunity. It is logical to assume that John McCain knows that to best run a war, you need to have the generals administrate the war. We have never won a war since World War II. Though many people are worried that he would use our military lightly, they also know he will do his best to protect our country.
He voted for all of the wars in the Middle East, even for the war in Iraq. Actually at the time we went into Iraq, there were few people against the war, seeing as the situation was rather convincing at the time. I believe that we should not have gone to Iraq. However, we have already thrown Iraq off balance, and we need to put it back on its feet. We cannot do this job halfway, as doing so would result in another highly motivated enemy in the Middle East. We need to stay in Iraq; however we do need to put most of Iraq back under martial law. As of now in most areas of the country, our soldiers have to wait for a fellow soldier to get shot before they can return fire. John McCain would leave the war in Iraq to the Generals running the war. John McCain knows that the generals running the war in Iraq know war better than all the politicians in D.C. What we to gain by winning this war is to make an ally in the Middle East rather than an enemy, and McCain knows this. We will not need to fear much outside of this country with John McCain in charge of the military
Barack Obama is more interesting than John McCain in several ways, many of which are not to my taste. This is a man who was born in Hawaii and later moved to Illinois. He worked as a “community organizer” in Illinois. After his service as a community organizer, he ran for Illinois state legislature, where he spent less than two years of his political career After his time in the Illinois State Legislature, he was elected to the U.S Senate. His time in the Senate was not very productive. Barack Obama didn't vote about half of the time, as he seemed to not want to show up on the record. He has voted “present” for many bills, including several Medicare bills, the Alternative Energy Tax Incentives, the Carbon Emissions Cap and Trade Plan, the Economic Stimulus Plan, and the Income Limit for Subsidies to Farmers. He has been a “stealth senator” and has not made decisions in the Senate with respect to his primary campaign issues. His indecisiveness is contradictory to the office of the head of the Executive Branch. The President is paid to make decisions, to pass or to veto. We do not need an indecisive person in office.
Now there are several things that he actually wants to do, but many of his ideas are not good for the country. Setting up a timeline for pulling out of Iraq is suicide. This policy is also giving our enemies a timeline for when we are leaving, and that is when they can make their move and take Iraq back. After we pull out of Iraq, he wants to reduce funding for our military. Iraq falling into instability means making a new enemy that can unite the Middle East against us. The Islamic extremists will claim the war in Iraq as an attack against Islam. They could twist it well enough that most of the religion would follow them in their Jihad against America.
Obama also wants to make it harder, if not impossible, for civilians to get firearms. Looking back into history, in WWII the reason we didn't invade Japan is because all of their civilians were able to fight to the last man, woman, and child. Actually that would be quite useful, We want them to think twice about coming into this country and starting a Jihad against America.
As for Barack Obama's economic plans, they speak quite clearly of socialism. Obama said in his speech to the Democratic Convention “there will be equal pay for an equal day's work”, That is the basis of socialism, which has never worked. He also said that he would “spread the wealth around.” The Soviets did that too, and those kind of ideas never work. Obama's healthcare plan also involves federal healthcare, which is paid for by the taxpayers. This plan would not change the fact that Americans are still paying for their health care.
I can see how those policies won't work out. At first in Obamatopia, everything is good and happy, and everyone gets paid the same and has the same healthcare, and then disaster strikes. All of the evil rich, who employed the middle class throughout the corrupt ages of the free market society, move out of the country with all their money. Suddenly, the free market collapses. The lower paid people cannot hire others when they are subject to high taxes. So, no one gets hired, jobs are erased, and all hope is lost. Then the messiah comes, our great leader Comrade Obama takes charge of the situation and nationalizes all methods of production so that everyone is happy again. Solemnly and with great care for the responsibility that this great man shoulders selflessly for the good of the American people. “We live in the greatest nation in the history of the world. Work with me as we change it! Can we do it?!” “Yes we can!”. Socialism and utopia are great concepts, but they never had, and they never will, work.
I do not believe that Obama should be elected in office. For those who vote to make history, he will indeed make history if elected into office. President #44 would indeed be the first black president, but he will also be the first socialist president. Socialism has never worked, and it never will work. There will always be the people on top in a country, in socialism the majority are really poor. The rich in socialism are very few, and are usually the ones either in government or helping the government. Government officials surely can corrupt in office in a free country, but in a socialistic utopia, they no longer care about the country, they care about control and their pocketbooks. People, the choice that this country faces in this election is between a socialist, and a moderate. Neither of the two candidates will shrink the swollen government, or stall its unhealthy growth. This election is indeed, a choice of the lesser of two evils.
