You can download the Windows 7 beta and get a product key here: www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/beta-download.aspxYou have to use IE to download it. It won't be available for long, so grab it now if you're interested. Its been getting decent reviews and is supposed to be much better than Vista was. The product key lets you use it until August 2009. I've got plenty of drive space, so I'm going to set up a partition and dual boot for a while and give it a try. Anybody else going to try it? Any comments?

I put it on an old 80 gig IDE...that way no boot manager was written to the boot sector..I dl'd it last night and installed it this morning. Took about 1/2 an hour including 4 dl's..AVG,Nvidia,HP and Bit defender. So far the only issue I have really had is my HT Omega Striker 7.1 sound card...I managed to get a set of Vista drivers to go..but it hung me up so i had to do a restore. I dl'd the 64bit version of 7..I am actually using IE 64 bit in 7 to type this now.

I am extremely pleased and impressed with this 32 bit version of windows 7, as some of you know my Laptop hard drive crashed a few weeks ago. On a whim I decided to try and run win7 into it and see if I had any luck, the set up repaired the damaged boot manager, reformated my drive, and loaded win7 on in less than 20 min.
The program boots ultra fast, works seamlessly, and controls are easy to find and use. Every program I have loaded in has worked (xp programs). The interface appears to be a hybrid of xp and vista, but much more functional.
The only diver that I had to manually load was for the wireless card built into the laptop. Everything else windows 7 picked up flawlessly.
Performance numbers.
running base (no programs open except program manager) 34 processes, 998mb of RAM, %10 of cpu usage leaving %90 free.
Here are the specs on my laptop.
Acer 5315 Intel Celeron 1.7Ghz 533 FSB (single core) 2Gb DDR2 memory 80 GB SATA Toshiba hard drive 15.4 wide screen Crystal clear LCD display.
I will add more as I find it.

Noted that Win 7 also has the UAC ( user access control) but is easily turned off with a link in the bottom of the first UAC box that pops up.

I've been playing around with it, and it looks really nice and has a few cool features. But I can not get my Realtek audio drivers to install, and I can't figure out how to make it share folders with the other XP computers on my home network.

Have not tried networking on mine except to hook to wireless net router. Mine is using the generic hd windows sound driver to make my realtek sound card work. It is doing ok and sounds good.
Noticed also the gadgets are not functional in the beta, maybe the networking and sound drivers are not compleat in the beta version?

That is possible DS as they didn't include many of the glitches in the beta version either.

LOL Silly, I have not had any problems as of yet with it. Has been up and running non stop now for 48 hours and no crashes or hangs. I have been using just as I would my XP pro and putting it through the paces with my normal every day computing.

Nice, guys, keep it up, and it might be just as usable and stable as my Mac OS X has been these last SEVERAL YEARS.

I used the Vista 64 drivers to get my HT Omega sound running...and Windows Gadgets will only run if you have UAC turned on. So far Office2003 Pro runs no issues...and I have been playing MOHAA on the server with no issues as well as COD5. The 64 bit version seems fairly stable at this point ..but then so was my Vista 64. I did have to redo it this morning but that was my fault by putting/forcing a program install that completely corrupted the way it seen my DVDRW's..Nod32 runs fine..Firefox..I still have to play more yet but they might have finally done something right with this one...but this was a different program than Vista and XP I have heard.
