So-called "augmented reality" uses the video feed from a device's camera (and GPS) to determine where you are in relation to other objects and can overlay in real-time other virtual objects or information.
Here's a purpose-built device demo:
Imagine this built into a pair of gogles, and an empty building to run around in full of zombies only you could see. ;D
This is an app running on an Android phone to overlay info about landmarks:

Can you imagine the possibilities with these things? This would make large-scale mock-ups obsolete. Just place this thing over your face and empty out a gymnasium for team-play.
