Never ask what kind of computer a person uses--if it's a Mac, he'll say; if not, why embarrass him?

That makes no sense, DS, unless you have to restart your pc after the new quicktime DL. Sorry.

and I only dl for the sake of watching what red posted. I have avoided quicktime like the plague since that update a few years back that screwed up windows xp.
and it did not say anything about having too restart when it was done installing.. just said install successful thank you for installing quicktime.

Uninstall Quicktime before that resource hog takes over your computer. Use this to watch Quicktime videos in your browser: www.codecguide.com/qt_lite.htmRE: the video. Its a little weak. Its not MS that's claiming that Win7 is different, its the THOUSANDS of people that have been using it for free for the past several months. They're not making unconfirmable promises about a future product, they're talking about a product that's been out for long enough to be throughly tested. You'd have a hard time finding anyone to give it a bad review. I couldn't help noticing that one of Apple's selling points is that it can run Windows. ;D

apple was a bit mistaken in a few of the adds anyway.. there is no need too get all new programs for 7.. it will run them all. It is very user friendly and reverse compatible.. Apple should research before making claims. LOL

Funny, though, how all those "thousands" of users with Win 7 have been asking for and are happy with less frills, less whistles, less hassle, etc. in their Windows OS. Just goes to prove the old saying--mimicry is the purest form of flattery. Some day they'll grow up and get a Mac.
PS, that "resource hog" is basically industry standard by now, but MS refuses to accept it or it would be bundled with the pc's off the shelf. And besides, what kind of self-respecting do-it-yourself hacker/pc builder has such a weak cpu setup that a little video stuff wreaks havoc on his system? Tch tch tch. My antiquated Windows box at work has no problem with QT, iTunes, and Safari and their updates.

I think you're the first person (including MACers) I've ever met that doesn't hate QT with an all-consuming passion. It forces its way into your startup folder so it runs at every boot. It sits in memory all the time, taking up memory and cpu time. It highjacks file associations from other programs. It highjacks your browser file associations too. Even after you kill it and delete the startup entry, it comes back like a virus the next time you play a video. And to add insult to injury, its a crappy media player with no way to resize the video or control the volume. Apple has done a lot of things right, but the Quicktime needs to die. www.google.com/search?q=i+hate+quicktimeDO YOU WANT TO REGISTER QUICKTIME? DO YOU WANT TO REGISTER QUICKTIME? DO YOU WANT TO REGISTER QUICKTIME? DO YOU WANT TO REGISTER QUICKTIME? DO YOU WANT TO REGISTER QUICKTIME? DO YOU WANT TO REGISTER QUICKTIME?

Edited: Sorry, in retrospect, it came off a little too strong, so I cut most of what I had put.No, don't hold back, tell us how you really feel! Try the latest version of QT and see what it's like. QT 7's standalone player is pretty slick, lots of controls (volume, brightness, size, etc.): www.apple.com/quicktime/player/Oh, and here's an interesting little statistic from Apple's QT website:

Its no suprise that lots of people are downloading QuickTime, they are almost forced to if they want to watch videos in that format.
Don't send your minions to crush me yet, I didn't say that all Apple programs sucked, just Quicktime!
The QT7 page says that it now has NEW controls so you can change the video size and volume (basic features that every other player had from day one.....). So, to be fair, and because you asked nicely ;D, I'll download it and give it an unbiased review.

less frills? What are you talking about? Win 7 actually has some added frills, just a more user friendly interface. And there is only one bite out of the Apple icon because no one wanted the rest of the worm. LMAO

Ok, here's my comparison of video players. These are just quick reviews of the functions, further investigation may reveal more features, your mileage my vary, void where prohibitied, etc. .MOV Test file: New Moon trailer #2 HD 1080p www.scifimoviepage.com/upcoming/previews/newmoon.htmlPlayers (newest versions of each): WMP 12 VLC QT 7 First, there was no detectable difference in video quality or smoothness between players. RAM usage during playback. QT is better than WMP, but not as lightweight as VLC. Probably not significant for most users, unless you have lots of other things running. WMP 155,000 K VLC 94,000 K QT 134,000 K Controls: WMP: During full-screen, important controls available by right-click. VLC: During full-screen, everything you could ever want available by right-click. QT: No controls available in full-screen other than basic volume, play/pause, forward/back. Have to leave full-screen to do anything else. ======================================= QuickTime 7 The Good: - Video resizing - Does not force itself back into startup folder after deleting entry - Does not stay in memory or taskbar anymore - Does not highjack video file associations - Does not default to auto-update (can be turned on in preferences) - Does not nag you to upgrade to PRO The Bad: - Adds itself to your startup folder during installation without asking - No easy way to go full-screen. Normal Windows full-screen functions do not work, such as pulling it to the top of the screen, double-clicking, or clicking the "full screen" button at the top right of the window. You have to open a pull-down list and select it. - Have to exit full-screen to access any other controls. - Still no volume control in browser player. Good thing Win7 now has a per-app mixer! Summary: QT 7 appears to have fixed the big problems that caused most of the hate for QT. I would say that this IS a huge improvement. Its still a very basic video-only player that isn't intuitive for Windows users (not Apple's fault, that's not who they designed it for). The best thing about it is the removal of the bad things it had before. Its a decent step towards getting as good as WMP, but neither of them can come close to VLC for flexability, customization, or ease-of-use.

Nice review.....I think. I don't understand it fully, actually, what more you want to do with it at full screen, the things missing, but your review overall sure sounds good. You know you can actually make money doing that kind of review, with pictures and graphics, of course, if you sell it to or do it for technical magazines and online sites???
Honestly, though, whatever limitations you've found with QT7, I don't experience on the Mac (original platform) or on my work PC, but then again, my work PC is so old I don't try full screen anyway, so I wouldn't notice them.
Thanks for the interesting honest thorough interview!
Oh, and btw, the upgrade to QT Pro is, by my understanding, a software switch flip by a keycode, that is, the QT you download includes Pro but it is turned off until you purchase the key and turn it on. So, naturally, free keys or workaround or hacks/cracks abound on the internet, and I'm surprised that if the request to upgrade to Pro was so troublesome that some of you just didn't do the crack and thus shut it off. If you wanted to keep QT, of course. I have no interest in QT Pro, even if free, so it never mattered to me, and the only time the Mac asks you to upgrade to QT Pro is when you download a major upgrade to QT and run it or access it for the first time, and then "no" really does mean "no and don't ask again." At least, on the Mac.
