-Adblock Plus Mandatory add-on!
-Configuration Mania Access lots of tweek setings
-Download Status Bar Manage downloads
Download Helper -Extract and download media from webpages
-Greasemonkey Force style tweeks for webpages
-IE Tab 2 For websites that don't display correctly in FF.
Plain Old Favorites -Access IE favorites folder inside FF.
====================================
This is what I love about Firefox. There are so many add-ons and options that everybody can set it up exactly to meet their needs/wants. LOL We're both happy with FF, and we don't even have any add-ons in common with each other!

But everytime there's a FF update, the add-on's don't work, so it's go through the hunt and download and installlation process all over. I did at one point add IE Tab 2, but I don't think I have ever re-downloaded it, and if FF just won't run on a particular website, I just go run IE anyway.
"So many tweaks, so little time" is not my mantra!

OK, so I just upgraded to FF4. Got an immediate message that two of my add-on's (didn't even know I had them) would no longer work, and that no updated version was avialable yet. They were AOL radio toolbar (or something like that) and Microsoft passport.net famework (or something like that).

You don't need the .net framework, it was added without your permission anyway. Just disable it. We actually talked about that one here: lpmembers.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=tech&action=display&thread=2023Most of the incompatable extentions will work just fine. There is simply a mismatch between the extention version number and the FF version number. Turn that off by going to about:config and setting "extensions.checkCompatibility.4.0". That forces it to ignore the mismatched numbers. If a particular extention still doesn't work, then you have to wait for the author to update it or stick with the last FF version for a while. The "the hunt and download and installlation process" is nothing more than clicking "Check For Updates" on your add-on page. "Adblock Plus" by itself is reason enough to use Firefox, or other IE alternative. I'm not very familiar with it, but my sister is a fan of Chrome and its extentions.

Where is this "about:config" setting?
I added Adblock Plus, and it wanted me to subscribe to a list (don't know what that means) and it suggested one for me, and I did it, but I don't know what to expect now, if my county IT people will come shoot me, or what.

about:config is the super-secret gateway to all things tweekable. Just type "about:config" in your address bar (no quotes). You'll get a big scary warning about the dangers of continuing. Click the spot that says, trust me, I know what I'm doing, I'll hold no one responsible for my foolish actions. Then sit back and prepare to be amazed! As you scroll through the long list of settings, understand that these are only the items currently set in your Firefox browser. There are LOTS more things you can add to this page to give you even greater control. In other words, not only can you adjust existing settings, but you can make up new ones and adjust them too!

Doh! I tried 3 times to do this on my Mac, and all I got was a blank white page. Then I realized I was using the Mac OS Browser (Safari)! I'll have to try this with FF next.

OK, so it works on FF for the Mac, too. But I have no clue what 99.99% of that stuff is.

OMG! glad I asked about FF addons...Adblock Plus is a godsend.
Finally had a chance to try it out.
A website I visit regularly has a peel away corner next to the scroll bar I always USED to hit lol.

I was using a friend's computer recently and was very suprised at the number of top, side, and bottom ads on a few websites I go to frequently. I immediately set him up with FF and AdBlock Plus! The nicest thing about it is that it doesn't just hide the ads, it actually prevents them from being downloaded to your computer. So it actually speeds up browsing AND makes it look better.

I'm using Ad Block plus on my work PC for FireFox. I can't tell yet that anything is different, but then, I always did keep "Pop-ups off" before and never even glanced at ads before.
