This is a very interesting video about the special AI used in Doom 2016. Its pretty thorough, without being so technical you need to be a programmer to understand it.
This system does a very good job of keeping the difficulty constantly on the edge of what you can handle. The AI never feels easy or completely overwhelming. The speed of movement compared to other games feels very fast when you first start playing it, but after awhile you adjust and sometimes wish you could move even faster.
A few keys to remember if you play this game:
Glory Kills (melee on stunned enemy) are always worth the time. You are invulnerable while the animation plays and it gives you health. If you are low on health and run into several weak enemies, take the time to Glory Kill each of them.
Almost all enemies are throwing projectiles at you or have only melee attacks. If you are constantly moving, projectiles will land where you used to be. You MUST stay moving all the time, or you will be quickly killed. There is no careful sneaking around and using cover in this game. The enemies are very aggressive and will quickly flank any cover you have.
Learn which weapons are best for which enemies and change weapons constantly. Use fast firing, high ammo count weapons on weak ones, and slow, low ammo on strong enemies. Using an over powered weapon for the current enemy is a waste of ammo and will instantly kill them, losing the opportunity for a Glory Kill.
Save your Chainsaw for special occasions. Gas cans (ammo) for the Chainsaw is rare. If you are almost out of ammo for all of your weapons, use the Chainsaw on the biggest enemy you can find. Chainsaw kills reward you with LOTS of ammo.
