I was looking under my desk for something and saw my throwing knives sitting there. I hadn't played with them in a couple years. Too hot Friday to do yard work

It is a heck of an arm workout if you don't do it alot. Arm was in pain and sloppy the next day I decided to take a few throws. The first throw, LOL, one of my water garden ponds is close by, so one did get washed

Yeah, I had no clue they would get like that. I had taken pictures and showed them to people, but you just couldn't grasp the size of them until I filmed me walking through them. They were just starting to flower when it started to get cold.
Now that I know what they can do, I can use them to help shade out weeds from growing in places....among other things.

I felt this one needed vertical for some reason, I get alot of people use phones and stuff, but you can't beat a good ol' desktop
Even back when I was PLAY melting aluminum with wood and coal, I never gave air bubbles A thought, never seen them. Are you making reference to degassing flux or something? Having said that, I placed risers at key tight points, also I poured into a divet in the sand before it went down the pour spout. It had four risers, so any air I guess would go out the risers before they fill with back pressure.
However, due to nature of aluminum shrinking, there was one spot that I think could look like air bubbles, might be avoided with larger risers for more back pressure as the casting sand will allow some gas to go through it anyway, also it could have been hotter.
3D printed axe set in casting sand.
30 lbs of casting sand was 70 bucks, and barely covered what I needed. Top half of the mold frame was barely half full, you can't see the 2x4's holding in the sand on the underside lol
Sand is reusable to a degree but I think it can be reconstituted somewhat but there is always going to be a little loss, mostly just loosing it, some fell there, there and over there
But know I know what internet purchased casting sand feels like now so I can get the desert sand at work in the reptile dept. ,get a quart of 10w30 and mix until right.
The toads tools I found last summer in the yard I just put those in 2 liter bottle cutoffs and filled with plaster of paris. They'ed been drying since then and the hot aluminum never even cracked the mold like I thought might happen. Just got some more plaster today in fact, never know when more will show up in the yard... ...I'm just itching to find a large ant colony in the grass.
I did however make a nice silicone mold of my skull gearshift knob from my old bronco II, I can fill that up with old candle wax or crayons, now I can make wax copies to put in whatever.
Edit - I feel I should add how detailed casting sand is, You can see print lines on non sanded 3D part. I can't wait to see how my hellraiser box parts turn out.

I'm actually going to do one more pour this year, today in fact. Supposed to get to 64, might be pushing the fuel consumption a bit, but I gave the aluminum axe to the guy that did the 3d print model, so now he has some coolness for his desk and I don't have an axe now
So, going to weigh up 90 10 aluminum bronze 4.5lbs copper .5lb aluminum
Edit - 2 fails, done till spring with this. Got the alloy made. fail 1 - not hot enough and sand was cold fail 2 - gates not big enough, but sand was warm from fail 1

I'm was surprised at how well the casting sand holds together. I wouldn't have thought you could turn a box upside down without it falling out. I imagine you probably have a bunch of sprue and scraps that you keep to melt down and reuse. Are you buying the metals for this, or is it recovered from trash/scrap?
The constitution wasn't perfect but it was better than what we have today.
