imagine playing LAMRON's on this. Microsoft has a new product just out . a coffee table PC it is so cool . it has a 30" touch screen surface. one feature is it downloads pictures from digital cameras without plugging it in. a bit pricey.$5000 to $10,000 but new technology is . i recall VCRs were $500 and up when they first came out DVD players were too.now you can get them for $33. digital watches and calculators were expensive now they sometimes give them away as promos . so as it gets more common price should come down. www.thepittsburghchannel.com/video/13414360/index.html also check out the "plugged in" section at www.thepittsburghchannel.com for other cool stuff. the table is windows based {sorry mac} {sorry RED}

It's seamless and easy to use. Now, mind you, my camera is lousy, it's part of my cellphone, but the new cellphone I'm about to get has a 2 Megapixel true digital camera, and it will function just as easily. (Yawn). Bluetooth is cheap technology and it will be very easy to add it to cameras if they don't already have it. That's way too much to pay for any windows based anything. {Sorry to be years ahead of you guys, again, but hey, that's just the Mac way, you know.}

...BTW you can wifi pics and files to windows also with bluetooth.... Yep, buy one of those plugin thingys that stick out of your pc, load the software, and hope it all works with this week's service pack of Windows. I like my stuff ready to go out of the box, all the bugs already worked out, and the drivers and software built into the OS. But nice try.

....No comment on the mac version of the table?.... Just that the demo vid shows touchscreen functions and features of "the surface" that look just like those already in place on the Apple iPhone which is due to start shipping this month, not two years from now. Oh, and those iPhone touchscreen items are heavily patented, so microsoft better watch out.

Touchscreen is not new at all, but what is new are the patented ideas and subroutines for getting the touchscreen to react in an advanced GUI style--the look and feel issue--and what I saw of the Surface was very similar to what the iPhone does (and no one did before).

The ads Apple has on its website for it are not nearly as nice as the demo Steve Jobs did in San Fran. at MacWorld this year (Jan or Feb)--he gave the keynote express. That's what you should look at, and fastforward to the iPhone part (they cover AppleTV and some other stuff, but the iPhone was the cool thing) or just click on the link on the first page to go there directly: events.apple.com.edgesuite.net/j47d52oo/event/

Touch screens have been around for a long time, but they haven't been developed much because nobody wants them. Sure its cool for a few limited applications, but you wouldn't want to use it at home for everything. Can you imagine how tired you'd be using one for a few hours? The only way we can sit for hours and hours in front of a computer is because your body can enter a near-coma state with the only movement being your eyes and tiny mouse movements. Anything that required the large muscle groups to be continously used would exhaust you quickly.
