I'm looking at getting a new graphics card so I can play Airborne and COD2 at high settings. I'm looking at the GeForce 7900 GT for two reasons; the cost is within reach without starving myself for 6 months and it appears to be the best available that only takes up one PCI slot. I only have five slots in my computer and they're all being used. So the newer double tall video cards won't fit.
Anyone have any experience with this card, or is there another I should be looking at? I could pay a little more if it meant I wouldn't need to upgrade again for a few years.
Also, has anyone found that they needed to upgrade their power supply when they are maxed out on using every single slot and plug on their computer? I haven't had any obvious problems, but I know I'm running more than my box was intended for.

Some of those higher end cards require a direct power link to your power supply and have to have a 500w supply.
do you have a agp, pci-e, or just a pci slot?
the radeon x1950 series would rock your world but don't know if it will fit in your case. I have no experience with nvida cards so cant help you on that specific one.. Mar is a good one to ask he helped me a lot.
Id defiantly look at ebay.. that is were I got my x800xl for a fraction of the new cost.. I'm very pleased with it.

I am running a 7900gt on the CPU I just built last summer. The power supply issue was a mute point for me as i started with a 650W supply with 2 24v rails. Like I said my goal is to run in sli soon. Then I will run a pair of the 7900gt 256mb cards. I love the card. They are becoming scarce on newegg but maybe tiger direct has more, haven't been there in years.

Lam, how many watts is your current power supply? I think the lowest you could get by with would be 400w. I don't know exactly what you're running with your pci slots, but without knowing I would suggest 500w. A 600w power supply will run almost any fully equiped computer, excluding the sli 1gb double wide crazyness with 6 harddrives in raid and stuff. Anyways, 500w should be the max, 400w should be good. I think you would be pushing it at any lower than that. Dual or triple rails is what your should get if you end up getting a new power supply. They distribute the power more evenly, and some have features that act as their own surge protector, and can also go easier on your electric bill. (LOL I feel like red writing this big thing here)
As for the vid card, you're on your own. I have no experience with that model. I can maybe do some research for you tomorrow, check some forums, read reviews and such. Good luck though. Hope I was at least somewhat helpful.

Yup, I would have a lot more posts, but I only know A LOT about not a lot of things. When I want to know something, I make sure I know everything about that something so I tend to go overboard on the research. So I figure when I'm 347 I'll know just about everything Side note: To those who are gonna wish me a happy birthday on friday, I am turning 19, not 22 as it will say. I fat fingered while entering my birthdate (at least thats what I think happened) and since most people arent retarded enough to mess up their own bday, there is no way to change it. So thank you in advance for the wishes.

The only thing I am wondering here Lam....are you mistaking PCI-E for PCI? or do you have a PCI-E video slot?..as for the card they were fairly top rated and with the new models out, you are getting a deal on something that has a lot of kick.

I've decided that my computer is not going to be upgradeable enough, and not worth putting too much more money in to. So I'm going to replace my power supply with a new one equivalent to stock ($30), and stay with what I've got until I can afford to just go out and buy a new super computer that does everything I want.
