I'm about to perform open-heart surgery on my computer. It has served me well for many years. Its a Pent4 1.7 Ghz processor that was considered extremely fast in its day. Now I'm going to install a new 3.0 Ghz cpu and super-heatsink. So if I don't come back, you'll know I screwed it up somehow and fried my computer.

GRRRRRRR!!!!!! "Universal" brackets for the new heatsink apparently fit every computer but mine. I had to fabricate new brackets myself to mount the stupid thing. That took a couple hours then the new CPU is DOA. It won't start up at all. I rechecked everything, and ended up putting the old processor back in. It works fine, so the new CPU must be the problem. Now I have to get the EBAY seller to refund my money.

New problem: bad power supply! Why don't things last forever like I want them to?

bummer Lam..
Hate it when that happens... might as well start from scratch and go for the whole shabang. new motherboard processor memory and a power supply... ohhhh and the vid card... what about $600 or $700 should do nicely for those mid high end parts.

Lam, can you catch us up on the server situation? I lost track of what's running the playground. It used to be an old laptop, then I thought you bought a "new" used pc (didn't Woody or Aigad or M help with that? Cost $130 or so, as I recall), and now you're upgrading something or the other pc. Is that the main server for the playground, or your personal pc you play and mod on? And by the way, I am wondering because the last few times I've come into the playground, it has crashed and restarted once during the time I was there, for no reason I could tell. Sometimes it was just stock settings, or as stock as Lamron gets, and other times it was with Jets and Custom maps. Again, just wondering.

One computer does nothing but run the server. That's the one that was purchased a several months ago with help from all you guys. My primary computer that I play on and write all the mods with, and use as a media computer for DVD storage is the one with the power supply problem that I was trying to upgrade the processor and video card. My third computer is the laptop that used to run the server and is used for portability and what I'm using now since my primary is down while I wait for the new power supply to arrive.
