I would like to know who has what in their tower/laptop. Who has the REAL balls on this server? I have a moderate Dell laptop with a 17" screen, 2G RAM , NVIDEA 7600 video card, 120G hard drive, duel core duo, w/ DVD-CD player/burner..(E1705 gamer version)...small time compared to what can be built. I know most of your playing habits and personalities by playing and listening to TS conversations. Pull up your skirts and lets see what really makes you proud!!!!
P.S.>> RedRock, Please bless us with your wisdom however, please limit your response to a 4-6 line paragraph instead of the usual full page post. ;D ;D ;D

Well, like I said before, my computer thought it was better suited on the ground than on my desk. So it no longer works... So I am running a laptop with a 1ghz processor, with 1 gig of Ram. No clue what video card I have. 75gig hardrive. CD/DVD burner. Its about 3 years old, and I can't install anything on it because it is my moms laptop. I will be getting a nice little alienware laptop in about a month. Thats gonna be nice.

I have a home made PC that I built in January, 2002 using the following: 1) TYAN motherboard. 2) DUAL AMD Athalon processors, 1.6GHz each 3) 40B+GB & 60GB Maxtor hard drives. 4) Plexwriter 24/10/40 CD writer. 5) ATI All In Wonder 9800 series vid card w/256K memory. 6) Pioneer DVD player. 7) Soundblaster Audoigy Platinum sound card w/break out box. 8) COOL CASES full tower case w/8 4" cooling fans. (VERY nice cases - highly recommended.) 9) 600 watt power supply. 10) Logitech Quick Cam Pro 3000 webcam. 11) Microsift wireless mouse/keyboard. 12) Klipsch surround speakers and subwoofer. 13) standard floppy drive. 14) floppy bay USB 2.0 ports (3) / 8 in one card reader combo (added in 2006.) 15) 1GB ram. 16) AGFA Snap Scan 50 color flatbed scanner. 17) 22" Dell flatscreen LCD monitor (added in 2006.)
It is getting rather old/slow by new standards but it still rocks. NOT including the monitor I have $700 in parts. I am considering building a new monster early next year.

"I will be getting a nice little Alienware laptop in about a month. Thats gonna be nice. " PRES... I own an Alienware laptop. Let me tell you, they absolutely compete with a desktop for performance. But DO NOT buy one unless you also buy a cooling mat base for it (TARGUS or other similar brand) as they run very hot. They are heavy too. Mine weighs like 9 pounds. But I do not like wimpy laptops that do not perform up to par. If you plan to actually make it a mobile machine I would consider other machines due to the weight and poor battery life (about an hour.) I got mine on Ebay. The original books & Alienware binder came with it. He paid $4,200 for it. I bought it from him for $1,700.00. It was hard to find a legitimate Alienware auction on Ebay as it is such a popular item that there is a lot of fraud on these types of auctions.

Vince, Thanks for the info that will never be in print. That is why I asked everyone to " Pull up their skirts". Peace!

I have a big dark-grey box that hums, a strip of plastic that has numbers and letters on it, some speakers that also hum and a monitor that keeps staring at me... I tell it to stop, but it won't listen to me....

See, you're the kind of guys who probably sit around and talk about your cars like, "Yeah, mine's got a 4402 bored-out dual cam with a 2.5 liftbar and a Rotsenger converter coupled with an aftermarket diode emitter...." etc. My car: A Ford Explorer, got 4 wheels, goes real nice, came fully loaded. My computer: An Apple Mac, got four corners, goes real nice, came fully loaded.

Well, Red, all you really need to know about the inside of a computer is that they all run on magic smoke. We know this because if the magic smoke ever escapes, it doesn't work anymore.

I didn't buy my first car until 1985! Now my little brother, he had a used VW bug, back when bugs were still bugs, in the mid 70's, as soon as he got his license (he now drives a delivery truck for UPS). But my Dad, ever the union carpenter, has only bought "American" his whole life, and my father-in-law, God rest his soul, used to start a rant every time he came upon a Mitsubishi or other rice-burner on the road (he and his brother were Navy test pilots in WWII). Oh, my first vehicle? A Nissan 4 x 4 p/u. Sweet, dependable, didn't need parts, kind of like a certain to-remain-unnamed computer I use........ ;D
