As dear old granny used to say, the proof's in the pudding. It will be fun whacking a guy despite his super-puter.

[sarcasm]What operating system are you planning to put on that.... freak of nature?[/sarcasm] (another way of saying, monster-machine) That all sounds very impressive! Especially to me, who has no idea what the heck all of that stuff is, (with the exception of the DVD writers) LOL I hope that it all works out well for you,

As dear old granny used to say, the proof's in the pudding. It will be fun whacking a guy despite his super-puter. RED: I do not expect my game skills to increase with this new machine. I am building a new one because my current machine is getting old. I built it nearly six years ago. I am also building it becasue I want it and becasue I can do it for less than buying a pre-built box of the same quality - if such quality even comes in a pre-built machine, which I doubt. SILLY: Windows XP Professional. I have no interest in Vista yet, but I may decide later to install it as a dual boot system since I will have a terabyte of storage space Back to my original reason for this post... I am curious to know thoughts on the particular choices I have made for MB, vid card, processor, ram, etc... Does anyone have knowledge of issues/problems with any of the parts I bought?

Hey Vin. Sorry I can't be much help to you on your question, and I pretty much figured that you would go with an operating system that you can rely on, lol. I am also glad to hear that you are not expecting to become a better player as you use this new equipment..... You are way too good already! As far as your list of items going into this machine, I am guessing that they are all pretty much the latest hardware versions available. That could quite possibly make your "Monster" one-of-a-kind, right? From one guinea pig to another, Good luck! ;D On another note regarding Windows Vista. I think that I have all of my software installed on the new system now and everything seems to be running pretty smoothly. There are still some idiosyncrasies regarding some software compatibilities and obviously they will need to work those out yet but I am sure that they will come around. Vista isn't such a bad "Monster" once you start to become more used to it.

everything looks good vin.... only question I have is are you going to run your integrated vid card or your expansion slot vid card? I see the one built into the motherboard is SLI, not knowing nvidia cards well? is your pci-e card SLI also?.. (might need it for airborne when it comes out)
laters man.

With three pci slots I would ASSUME (i know) that it is also externally sli capable via the two black slots. Just my guess. If you don't mind what will this Monster set you back? Have you specked it to the nearest retail system. When I built my system from new egg I spent 1200 for what I only could have gotten via Alienware (dell) for between 2500-3000. Just a thought , have you looked in to the 10k rpm SATA 150 raptor drives. I love mine it is super fast. They don't have the capacity of the Samsung but are wicked fast.

I will disable the onboard video. The 640MB vid card is SLI.

I cannto find a built machine that offers all I am putting into this one. But all parts totalled $1,800.00. I did look at Alienware (I LOVE my Alienware laptop) & Dell and the closest thing I "built" on their pages ran well over $4,000.00 but still fell short on most of the items I bought. I looked at Apple to just for kicks. But I didn't want to take out a mortgage to buy their top end stuff. I did look at the 10K rpm raptor drives but the seek time & overall performance were really no better than the 7200 rpm Samsungs (and I really wanted a terabyte or storage.) I ljust like saying terabyte 4GB of ram will be fun too.

I have bought their memory in the past as well. Great stuff. My nephew recently gave the G.SKILL memory a try and he really likes it so I thought I would try it too.
