If you're like me (and who isn't? ), while surfing the web or reading documents you come across links or phrases that you want to remind yourself to check later. Of course, a few minutes later you've forgotten where they were or copied them to a temporary text file you forgot to save. So I wrote a utility program to make it easy to save those notes to a desktop text file.
You can download "Clipboard_Notes" at the bottom of this post. To use it, save it anywhere and then drag a shortcut to your tool bar or pin it to the Start menu. You just want it to be someplace that you can see it and click without leaving the current webpage or document.
The first time you click it, you'll get a choice of "Keep Clip_Notes Window Minimized?" Clicking YES will keep it minimized and out of the way while its working, choosing NO will show the window every time you use it so you can review what you just added. This will become the default behavior. A text file named "Clip_Notes" will be created on your desktop.
To use it, simply highlight, right click and select COPY for any text. Hit your Clipboard_Notes shortcut icon and it will be added to the file. It doesn't matter if the Clip_Notes.txt is open or not. It will start it if necessary, or simply add to it if already open. The file is auto saved every time you add anything, so you can exit it at any time without loosing anything.
To change the default MIN/Show setting, delete the desktop Clip_Notes.txt. If the program detects that the file is missing, it will ask you again for your MIN/Show preference.
If you want to permanently set the MIN/MAX behavior, go to your shortcut properties and add a 0 to the end of the "Target" box to always show , or a 1 to always minimize.
I hope someone finds this useful. Its one of those things that I got started on writing and ended up spending more time making it work than I will ever save by using it. ;D
I've been using this for a while, and it seems to work perfectly. If you find any bugs or have any improvement ideas, let me know.
