Here are some snapshots of that program checking out my computer, Mar





See how it shows the 5300 being used? All the sites that I have visited so far say that I should be using the 4200.

Maybe I will just go ahead and start looking for more ram with the 5300 speed, just to be sure since that is what is installed already.

Recommended is only that, recommended. They balance speed, price, and how much money they will actually make. If you can get the model number of your motherboard, you can get the specs of it on the manufacturars website and they will tell you FOR SURE what speeds the motherboard will handle. I would thing any modern motherboard will handle a pc6400. You won't really notice a difference between 4gigs of pc4200 or 4gigs of 6400. You will notice the difference from 1gig to 4gigs though. Bus speeds (the 4200, 5300, and 6400's) don't make much of a difference unless you are doing extreme gaming. Or if you are surfing porn sites and have 167 pages open, all running videos.

Go with pc4200, it really doesn't matter.

Silly.. do not forget to check Ebay for your memory sticks once you find out what you want. I would recommend checking out the feed back of the seller before deciding to buy, but over all I have had good luck buying memory from ebay sellers.. Usually brand new and at a fraction of the cost...

Hey, just got back from visiting more Geeks.

They told me that the 4200, 5300 and 6400 doesn't matter if your mother board only handles the 4200 speed (which is the case of my Gateway). The memory card will "clock down" to what ever the motherboard can handle. Right now, the 5300's are the top selling and the cheapest in the stores now.

I can't prove if any of this info is correct or not so I think that I will just stick with the 5300, since that is what came in my computer.

Checking out those specs on that Pentium site you found Mar, it would appear that this mother board would accept the 5300, (the 667 million data transfers per second), which is good since that is what they have installed on it. LOL


Thanks for all your help guys! I had to do a huge"memory dump" in order to make room all of this new information up there behind my eyes and somewhere between my ears.

Hey!!! My old pal Dvorak! He was a long-time Mac columnist for MacUser magazine in the 80's and 90's (as I recall), before he went over to the dark side full time, but guess what he's said recently?

Dvorak has been a long time critic of Apple Inc., even goading readers with a Mac-bashing column in MacUser magazine.

On 25 July 2007, on what he called "a sad day for Mac bashers," Dvorak wrote favorably of his experiences using a Mac. He said that compared to a PC, the Mac "gets the job done, albeit more elegantly" and that "the interface is slicker than the PC's." He noted, "I sense that the OS is more solid than Microsoft Windows, but I cannot say why exactly." As for making recommendations for others, he stated that he would rather provide customer service for "most people" by "recommend[ing] a Mac with its higher price but lower hassle factor."[5]

This was a significant change from his earlier comments.

In 1984 he criticized Apple's inclusion of a mouse with their computers, saying “There is no evidence that people want to use these things.” In 1999, he ridiculed the iBook as “‘girly’”,[6] saying, “It looks too juvenile— something a kid, a little girl, would like. Something you'd get at Toys 'R' Us.” For this he was slammed not only by Mac aficionados, but also by female computing pundit Janelle Brown for reinforcing gender stereotypes. In 2005 he suggested that recent good press about Apple was due to media bias, writing “With 90 percent of the mainstream writers being Mac users, what would you expect?” He later predicted that Apple would release a Video iPod in spite of Steve Jobs' denials, suggested that the Mac brand should be discontinued, predicted that Apple would switch to Intel chips, and suggested that Apple might be switching over to Windows and abandoning their Mac OS to save money.[7]

On 9 June 2006, he explained to Dave Winer that he would bait Mac users in order to increase traffic to his website.[8]

Dvorak has also been outspoken on Apple's iPhone, partially due to the public praise the iPhone received before it reached retail stores. In an op-ed piece for MarketWatch Dvorak said that Apple could not compete with existing mobile phone companies Nokia and Motorola.[9] He did criticize how he was singled out as an "iPhone basher," because he pointed out that people were making judgment on a product they haven't even used yet. However, after the release of the iPhone, he said that it was a nice device.[10]
