Hey Rookie, I see you are a very capable screen-capturer now, congratulations ;D
I have a 256 mb, DDR, PC2700U, Cas-Lat 2.5, 333MHz. (just the one card)
Does anyone know if they have any use for this? For the cost of the shipping, they can have it.
Here is actually what the sticker on the side of this card reads:
MT16VDDT3264AG-335B4 PC2700U-25330-B1 SG, CBNB6Z0008 200307 256MB, DDR, 333MHz, CL2.5
(I realize that this is not the proper thread to put this info into, but I thought that it matched Rookie's mem card pretty closely that maybe he could use it. Of course Rookie would need an empty slot to add this card.) Anyone know if this will work or not?
I am also putting my new memory cards through the tests now. If they pass the rigors, I will post my replaced ones in the "used equipment thread"
Regarding the Windows Barrier on Ram. I just installed the 2-2gig mem cards about an hour ago. I checked my computer performance program that comes with Windows and yes, it only recognizes about 3300MB of ram. I am losing about a Gig, but the price I paid for these 2-gig cards, I really don't mind.
The beauty of this is that when I had just the 1gig memory in there, I only had half of it left after Vista gobbled up the other half. Now that I have given Vista more room to work with, Vista, along with other programs running in the background, are grabbing 900MB of Ram and still leaving me with 1,800 free for other stuff.
If my guess is correct, that will put less strain on my tempermental Vista operating system too.... just a guess.

I don't know if that would work or not and I already have a 1GB that does not work, sounds like I would need a box of them to find one that would work. Thanks tho, If I thought it would work I would like to have it, I have an empty slot already. Thats why I got the 1GB.

After reading some of the stuff on here I was wondering about a few things. Instead of looking it up I thought I would just ask you guys.
What does/are the difference in the numbers? I bought 1 GB DDR PC-2700
Whats a DDR2 or the PC- 3200/5300 or how many ever numbers there are?
Mine also says 128x64 HIGH DENSITY DDR on it, what the hell does that mean?
Just wondering because I am wanting to upgrade this stuff and need to know what I am looking for. Even if my HP is a little finiky.

Just wondering because I am wanting to upgrade this stuff and need to know what I am looking for. Even if my HP is a little finiky. Well, since I have had our fellow Lamronians look up information for me when I had the same questions, let me pass some of that along to you. The DDR and the DDR2 operate totally differently. Neither will work in the other's place. The 3200/5300 is basically the speed of the memory stick. You should check to see what speed your computer is designed for. The higher number will work in a lower speed Mother Board, but it will only be able to process data as fast as the computer's motherboard can. Being that the 6400 is way way more expensive to buy than the 3200, it only makes sense to buy the lower matched speed Memory stick. I have no clue as to what the "high density" or the 128x64 means. Check with Wikipedia. I did some reading there and felt that I learned quite a bit. You should check on that other thread on this where many other members here did their best to help me with my questions. lpmembers.proboards34.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=1195530471You will be "learned" one way or another, LOL

ok..bare with me here..the reason the other ram did not work..I see a total difference between the 2 screen shots. the CPU one is saying that you are running at PC3200 speeds to achieve an XP3200..the RAM is showing PC2700..when you look at the CPU screen and see Bus Speed 200Mhz...that is PC3200...so basically your system Ram is overclocked and the new stick could not handle the higher rate.If the Ram was running stock you would show an XP2500 as the CPU. MOst AMD Xp2500's will easily achieve XP3200 speeds but the memory needs to support it..I have 2 of those CPU's here and they will easily reach that speed if not higher with the right ram.Obviously the stick you grabbed will not...if you go in to the system BIOS and change some settings you probably be able to run both..but you will also be running slower...166x11=1826Mhz...XP2500(which is stock settings for PC2700). In what I have seen over the years..they probably cheaped out and put a barton2500 CPU with decent ram and overclocked it to sell a higher end unit.Sorry...or either that you had a friend "tweak" it. Also post a screenshot of the mem tab...that will give me the last link I need to figure this out..

Like all new programs, they take some time to getting used to. Then they are a piece of cake. ;D

yep that is why the other stick didn't work...you are overclocked...Dram frequency on this screen should read 166 mhz....Bus Speed on CPU screen should also read 166...with the level below it reading 333. So either you take it back to stock, hope that PC3200 will work..or just leave it alone.. So for your own piece of mind...when you put the stick in..you actually didn't do nothing wrong and if the computer was running stock speeds..it actually might have worked..so it isn't your fault..and I'll stop teasing you now

You know, Rookie, you have all the makings of a fine MacUser! I have tried to talk the wife into getting a Mac, it's what our son uses at school, and I thought it would be easier on me. Thought being the key word . I am still trying to understand this thing I got in front of me.

How do I raise my "RAM speed"? Are you telling me I am SOL because some one jacked around with something in the "BIOS"? Understand the words you typed here I just don't know what they mean when you push them all together LIKE that. Thanks Mar I think LOL. Really thank you.

h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=bph07110&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&product=431077&dlc=en&lang=enthis is a basic guide..but am looking for the more specific setup for you.. a little more looking and i turned up this support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-usthis should be the link to the Adobe download of the manual for the motherboard..should be if Dell did not customize the BIOS.. this is the screen you are looking for..at the very top..CPU External freq..that is the value you want to change..currently it is at 200..stock is 166 for your memory..I am just trying to show you this ..am not saying you have to..or need to do this unless you want to add the RAM.Also when you look at the bottom in the green..it explains how to change screens..values and save settings..

Will this ^^ Slow the computer down any? I understand that if I change this and put in the RAM it will be faster, but will it be THAT much faster.
Just wondering before I get in there and WRECK the wifes' computer. LOL
Modify: I looked at that download page and I am not sure what I am downloading. it has a pull down tab to the right but I am not sure what I should be looking for.

was supposed to be the link to the pdf file for the manual...it won't go straight to that spot..sry..yes it will slow down the speed of the processor, but you should be able to gain some speed due to having more memory. I would say at this point...the best bet might be to just leave it alone. If you are not comfortable with changing these settings or afraid of adjusting the wrong..let's leave it alone. is somewhat hard to try and talk someone thru this through messaging.
