Stolen property. If you steal property, you must report its fair market value in your income in the year you steal it unless in the same year, you return it to its rightful owner.

Illegal income. Illegal income, such as money from dealing illegal drugs, must be included in your income on Form 1040, line 21, or on Schedule C or Schedule C-EZ (Form 1040) if from your self-employment activity.

This reminds me of when I used to be a business owner. The IRS would send be reminders that I had to pay taxes on all my illegal employees.

On the flip though I can see why they do this... then when a crook is caught, they can add the charge of tax evasion.

I doubt the IRS will rat you out to anyone as long as you keep paying your taxes. Prostitutes have been paying taxes for years with no problems. I think all the IRS is interested in is the money.

In fact, the IRS is the source for the number cited of illegal aliens in the country (~12 million). That's how many people they KNOW are using fake social security numbers, and nothing has ever been done about that.

mmmm sounds like maybe we need an ethics oversight committee for the IRS.. or at least some accountability. Strange that they would know who and were the criminals dumb enough to report their crimes are and do nothing about it.. but then again scratch that, would just cost us more in taxes to pay for that new department.

Eliminate the IRS and replace it with a federal sales tax and we could solve alot of problems.
