I have basically unlimited space on the forum to make different categories. Would anyone be interested in moderating a section on what interests you? It could be any subject, hobby, politics, religion, art gallery etc. that you have knowledge of.
A moderator would basically play host in that section and lead discussion on that subject. The moderator would also be able to lock, delete, modify, or sticky threads in their section. I think it would be nice to bring in discussion on other things and maybe even attract people who don't even care about MOH:SH. You could direct other friends who share your interest to this forum, and Lamron's Playground will host everything.
If you are interested, let me know what subject and the title you would like for the category. Then I'll create it, and we will give it a try. Some things may not end up being popular, but that's fine. I can always remove dead subjects or start new ones. We might even discover other common interests.

Suggestion for one topic: Popular Diversions: Books, Movies, TV, Music, Internet.
For example, there's a new Bernard Cornwell (author of Sharpe series !!!) book out about the Viking invasion of England circa 9th century (haven't read it yet, and the sequel is ALSO due out in the US Jan 06); debating whether to see SW III at midnight showing first night or not; anyone know when BSG new season begins (or even if there is one); What, no new BareNaked Ladies CD yet? (Bruce Springsteen? who's he?); and just joined Live365 internet radio service, am on trial period, anyone else using it?
Overly broad, admittedly, but think about how many of those tie in to most everything we Lamronites do--wonderful historical military fiction by a renowned author of Napoleonic and Civil War weapons/battles/tactics, there's a MOH civil war server, the actor in Sharpe TV series played Boromir in LOTR movies and a bad dude in Clancy's Patriot Games movie, makes me glad we have honorable decisive leader now in Washington to get things done, didn't you hate the wimpy president on BSG new series.......etc., etc.

Cool idea, Lamron. My interests are motorcycles, firearms, police tactical teams, MoH, and (insert appropriate adult activity here, performed by a consenting male and female or females ;D). You have the MoH aspect covered, quite obviously. The firearms have been addressed as well. Police tactical teams discussions should be kept inside that community for the most part. A motorcycle topic could be an option, as several of our members and a few guests are riders. The last interest really doesn't fit within the parameters of LP!

there's a MOH civil war server, I've heard this mentioned before, and find the idea quite intriguing. Can you provide an IP so I can check it out for myself? On the topic of SWIII...call me a geek, but I can't wait! I've never been a member of any fan club or donned any type of movie costume, but I've been a fan of these movies since the original came out in the 70's and I was about 10 years old. I'd say it was THE movie of my youth. The fact that they are making the 5th sequel 25 years later is remarkable, to me. I am critical of how two of the films, #4 in particular, came off as entirely too "cutesy" with some of their characters and dialogue. I anticipate a smashing finale to a fantastic story and movie saga! I don't do lines or crowds, however, and I am a patient person. Therefore, I will NOT be camping out for tickets or fighting the mobs for a seat in the first showing. I can wait a couple of weeks for the hype to die down. Dang, perhaps Red is on to something?

1) BigDaddy asked me where I heard about a StarWars TV series. I still don't remember--I have a vague remembrance of hearing Lucas himself speaking the words, so it might have been an AOL SW preview/feature. Regardless, a Google or other search for "Star Wars TV Series" will give lots of hits on this, for example from the Detroit Free press on Lucas' recent visit to Indianapolis: www.freep.com/features/living/robot-bar125e_20050425.htmIt indeed looks like it's gonna happen! 2) RE: Civil War MOH, you have to download the files for the weapons and uniforms, but it was released last year to the public (I was one of the private testers). I haven't been there in a long time, but the home website is www.planetmedalofhonor.com/mohcw/index2.htmland it gives the game server IP, and they have their own forums, too. Don't know what it means that they're moving toward a HalfLife 2 mod--maybe that will cut out us Mac users, as there is no HalfLife for Mac--Deus Ex came the closest to that for us. I have some interest in the War of Northern Aggression, as my East Tennessee family was involved as far back as (family lore says) a great-great grandfather Rebel who reportedly killed his captain over a woman in NC.

Well, I'm hearing ideas for categories, but what I'm looking for is moderators. What area do YOU specifically want to handle? A moderator guides a forum discussion and contributes new info on the subject. A moderator also supervises his section, settles disputes (if needed), answers questions, and takes resposibitlity for mantaining and promoting his area. A good moderator is what keeps a discussion flowing and interesting so people keep coming back.
This will be YOUR area, with very few restrictions from me. Everybody has some hobby, or interest that they are passionate about. Use it as your own soapbox. Take on the challenges of making YOUR area successful. Maybe RedRock wants to gather his fellow MACers to consolidate their plans for world domination. Maybe Desmo2 wants to use his LE experience to teach people something. Surely some of you have thought that it would be nice to have your own forum, but didn't want to mess with website design and layout. Here is your chance to do so in a place where I handle all those details and that already has visitor traffic.

Wife says this is really a humongous offering, extremely generous of you--she's big in FreeRepublic.com as a basis for comparison. I call her my chaos-buster, as she always has some cause or another to "fight for" or "rail against" or to set right (or at least talk it to death). I don't have a burning desire to take over anything or force anyone to know how right I am about everything, but it would be fun to trade ideas and comments with others about our passtimes.
I'm still thinking about it, too--don't really think I can do a regular column-like/blog-like forum moderation, but would be glad to read and participate frequently. It's the daily doing and the responsibility for routinely contributing new stuff that gets me. I'm more of a person to run with material already out there by The Creative Ones, than to be a Programmer (in Tron language) myself. So, still thinking........
One thing, though, we'd have to be careful about stating personal info among members, as the internet traffic and search engines would then be compiling more on us.

I don't know the first thing about being a moderator, but if you would like someone to take over RKBA, or a motorcycle topic, I'd be willing to give 'er a shot.

I could take care of a motorcycle topic, but I may need a co-moderator, or an MA (moderator's assistant), to keep me in the mainstream. My interests tend to be pure sportbikes, and I believe I'm the only rider at LP that isn't on a cruiser. Some are even Harley riders! ;D Regardless, there are enough riders at LP that I think this topic could get a little activity. Woody and I could also moderate an "ask a cop" topic, which could be interesting because I'd provide a US view, and his would be Canadian. You don't mind me volunteering you, do ya Woody?
