Well, the server gets very few visitors anymore and sits empty most of the time. I've resolved my PunkBuster issues and I'm going to set up a small modded COD4 server on the computer running LP now. Eventually, I'll probably switch to COD5, but I don't own that yet, and apparently they haven't patched the downloads anyway.
However, there still are a few hard-core LP SpearHead players out there (including me). And not everyone has purchased COD4 or has the neccessary hardware to run it. I'm not ready to let it die completely, I've got too much work invested in it.
Since everything is running on a dedicated computer here in my house, I can set up some batch files to run the two games at different times and automate the scheduled switching.
So what I propose is having a regular "SpearHead" day once or twice a week and run COD4 the rest of the time. I could also split individual days, but that would probably lead to annoying shutdowns in the middle of gameplay, and some people would find that their available play time was always on the wrong game.
So what do you guys think? How many of you still want to play SpearHead and how often/what days would you like it to run?
Knowing that it was only available at limited times might concentrate the players during that time and lead to more active games.

Sounds like a reasonable plan. I check the server frequently but don't play much, picking and choosing both my play time and opponents, so that is a good start. A few hours on weekend evenings would probably be the most likely times for me, but what do the server logs indicate as to most frequent visitor times these days?

If interested I have a link to a website were you can buy the key code for cod4 and is %100 legal. Cost is about half of buying the game off the shelf. It would require a dl of the game form some were or a friend that would let you use their disk to install the game then use your purchased key code to activate it. I have several members at dvt that have done this, and had no problems.
I am sad too see sp slowing down, I really do love the game. I just do not have much time to play it anymore with my admin duties, and play time at DVT. COD 5 is a fun game also, but we have not played it much in the last few weeks due to everyone getting tired of the same maps and stock game. We are very frustrated that they have not patched the game so the http redirect works. I think the sp crowd will like cod5 better than 4 when they get this fixed as it is set in WWII and uses many of the weapons that you are already used too.

That sounds like a good idea.
You have put a lot of time and effort into the Playground and I was always amazed at what you could do with the modding of that game. I look forward to more amazing things from you Lamron in COD 4 and COD 5 as well!
Thank you for inviting us all over to your house, so-to-speak, and hosting the game for so many years!

Ditto what Silly said.. ;D
I know it is sad to see all that time and effort fade away. Remember though life is about stepping stones, you learn from one then take what you know and move to the next. ;D

Yes, I came back here after my posting above just to say much of what Silly did. We all recognize, Lamron, that you've put thousands of hours or more into modding and tweaking and managing the playground for us, your invited guests, and we truly appreciate all you've done! Thank you!

I still enjoy playing but as you said players are few and far between. I mostly check the server to see if there is anyone playing on Saturday and Sunday. Mornings and early evening.
I have been playing COD4 and World at War on my 360. "Release the dogs!!" LOL
Does anyone else play on Xbox live??
Also, Thanks from me too Lamron !!

No, Lamron, I don't have cod4. I have spent my extra dollars lately on weapons and ammo. I might be able to hijack the daughter's intel mac and try cod4, though--I freed up some 60 Gb of hard disk space on it the other day, to let me load windows on it if I want, but I'm afraid the graphics board is too slow on it (128 Mb VRAM). So, I'm playing COD:UO and COD2 when I want a shooter; I can usually find people to play on UO, lesser so on 2. In the summer, when the daughter isn't using her mac for school, I might have a better chance of trying. Note: 2/4/09 edited to delete off-topic stuff that sounded bad even to me after I wrote it.

I'm always in for a game of MOHAA Spearhead at the Playground! Weekends are probably the optimal time for me.
All you other LP MOHAA die-hards out there -- speak up!!!!
Regardless of the outcome, all Lamron's work and many, many hours of fun on the server with you all, has been much appreciated!

I still enjoy MOH! I don't have COD4 yet but will buy it and try to get it work on my computer if LP switches.
Cheers!

I like playing in the playground server also. I just check to see if the server block has any players or not.

LOL that's kind of the problem. EVERYBODY checks to see if there are players on, see's that there isn't, and doesn't join. Somebody has to be the first to go into the empty server, then others will see that they are there and join them.

That is a very good point, I do just that, pop into the palyground "no one there" so out I go, I think I'll stay in and see what happens from now on, play "smash the windows" while waiting LOL.
As my time zone is differant to yours this may or may not stimulate some players from europe to play the palyground, lets see :-)
