THIS IS AN UPDATED VERSION OF THIS POSTING, AND I WILL DO MORE WORK ON IT SOON, MAINLY ADD PICTURES, BUT THE NUTS AND BOLTS OF HOW TO USE TS FOR MAC ARE HERE AND ALL YOU NEED FOR NOWYes, all you Macintosh-using boys and girls, you too can now be a "big bad computer person" just like your Windows compatriots and eek out nearly-live verbal taunts and jeers to your battlefield opponents using TeamSpeak (TS)--no need for the TS organization to put out the Mac-native version of the client in a year or 2 dozen. And it's easy, as long as you're using OS 10.
Here are simple stepwise instructions:
1.) Download the TeamSpeex application. This is not TeamSpeak software itself, but instead is a limited program written by a Mac person to use just one of the several types of voice-over-internet protocol channels (specifically, the Speex codec) that TeamSpeak uses; it doesn't have all the buzzers and whistles that a true TeamSpeak version would have. Go to this website address and download the correct public beta version of TeamSpeex for your version of OS X (for 10.3.9 and lower, grab the no-unicode-support version, and for 10.4.x, get the Public Beta version):
www.savvy.nl/blog/download/ .
You can also get them from

macologist.org/dload.php?action=file&file_id=402And there are a few others--if you can't get it to download or can't find another, post it here with an email address of preference and we'll try to hook you up.
Once the final beta, or first true post-beta release, is ready, we'll update this thread. Another public beta update is expected by the end of October, but these versions are working for most Macs right now, and my 10.3.9 version is working just fine for Lamronsplayground and XID and Sandboxsoldiers.
2.) Unpack and install the TeamSpeex application.a) The downloaded file will be a .dmg (disk image)--just double-click that and it will create a picture of a new hard disk on your desktop with the TeamSpeex file name.
b) Double-click that and it will open a window showing the application, license, and read-me file.
c) Create a new folder on your own hard disk wherever you want this to go--I suggest you call it TeamSpeex Folder and put that in the Utilities Folder which is in your Applications (OS X) Folder.
d) Then drag all of the items from the open TeamSpeex window into the new folder, thus copying them to your chosen folder.
e) You can now close the previous TeamSpeex window that came from the little hard disk icon's opening, and then you can delete both the little hard disk icon and the downloaded dmg file (unless you want to save that to your created TeamSpeex folder, too, to archive it) by dragging them to the trash, etc. (usual Mac stuff--you know how to do it).
f) Click on the application and drag it to the dock wherever you want it to be positioned and release it there, if you want a one-click launch through the dock.
It is now installed and ready to run.
3.) Connect with the TeamSpeex application.a) Either use the icon in your dock or navigate to the TeamSpeex folder on your hard disk, and just launch the application with a double click on the cute little application icon : picture coming
b) You'll get the following screen: picture coming
c) Type in the desired web server address of the TEAMSPEAK server (
not the game server).
d) Type in your desired nickname for you (suggest you just put your screen name that you go by in the game for the game server you are going to).
e) Click on either Anonymous or Registered (use Anon. if it's a public server and you don't have rights or a password for there, and use Registered if you are a member there or have been issued the password.
f) For Lamronsplayground teamspeak, enter the following Address: 216.86.152.226:8799.g) If you chose Registered, another line to enter appears below your nickname, the LOGIN box, and there you put the Login name assigned to you or your group by the Teamspeak Administrator.
h) For Lamronsplayground Members (LP Members), enter the following Login:
LPMember.i) For public users wanting to join LamronsPlayground teamspeak, or for other TeamSpeak servers where you're using the Anonymous connection, just leave the password blank and then hit CONNECT, and you'll be connected to a public channel of that server. What happens after that is up to the particular TeamSpeak server's administrators. Usually, you can ask through the game server's in-game typed chat to be allowed access to the private/active channels. Note that these channels must be CODEC 9 (Speex) or you (currently) won't be able to use them.
j) For Lamronsplayground Members (LP Members), enter the Playground's password (same as for the game server) in the correct box and then hit the CONNECT button.k) For other Registered servers, put the correct password in the Password box and hit CONNECT.
l) If you successfully connect, you'll get this window (with names, etc., obviously different depending on how many people and channels are there, etc.) and a green light next to your name: picture coming
3)
Using TeamSpeex, now that you're connected.a) If others are already in the channel where you are, or join there, you'll see their names and their status light (green, you hope), and you can just stay there and talk.
b) If you want to switch to another channel, just double click on that channel, and you'll be moved there. Let's hope your little light stays green for that switch. Then you can talk to people there.
c) If it's a private channel, when you double click you'll get a window to open asking for your password--put it in and hit OK. If you're golden, you'll be moved there and get the little green light again. If not, you gotta stay public or ask for permission to enter the private channel or to be taken into the private channel by someone who has privileges--do this through the in-game chat of the game server.
d) Make sure your TeamSpeex window is active--click on it somewhere safe--and then use the "Preferences.... " submenu of your TeamSpeex menu (next to the Apple Menu at the top of your monitor screen) to
set your preferences. You don't have to go to the Mac OS System Preferences panel to do this.
1. The main one to set is your input device, whether a headset or external microphone, or the internal microphone. Use the pulldown menu for Audio Input to choose the correct one. Obviously, if the external device is not connected at the time, it won't show up. USE A USB-POWERED external device if external is how you want to go. The internal microphone works just fine--that's called "Built-in audio" on the Audio Input pulldown menu of TeamSpeex.
2. Adjust your input and output gains. Probably middle is best. I don't know what the "Loopback" button does--try that at your own expense. Currently, there is no helpfile with the application, but I hope that changes in the future.
3. The other major one is to choose your Push To Talk key (PTT key). Choose something quickly available to one of your fingers while you're playing your game, but not one that is used by the game itself. So far, I'm having trouble getting the keypad keys to be used, so avoid those for now. You can also try to bind the chosen key to your mouse buttons for faster use, but I leave that to you, as I am still trying to do that myself for my MS Wireless Intellimouse Explorer 2.0.
4. Set your System volume, which will be your TeamSpeex voice volume, where you want it decibel-wise. Do that in the standard Mac fashion, by calling up the System Preferences panel and then choosing Sound and setting the system sound output where you want it. While you're there, check to make sure your output is how you want it, whether through external speakers, etc.
5. From within the game application, set the Master Volume of the game; otherwise, you'll not be able to hear people talking over the gunfire, explosions, and bloodcurdling death cries of the game. For MOH, this is through the Main menu room, choosing Options and then Audio.
6. Close your TeamSpeex preferences window and other unnecessary windows, and see who's on TS to talk to. Depress and hold your PTT button and speak. If it's working, your little green light will turn into the chat bubble instead. Likewise, when another is talking, you see their light turn to a chat bubble. Release the PTT button when you're through.
Too short a message, and it might not be heard, but too long is.....well, too long. Your message will be basically recorded and then sent out a second or so later to those in the channel with you, so occasionally others will be talking when they hear your message through their machine, and then when you hear their message, you'll also hear yours partially.
e) Next, go launch your game application and play as usual. Whenever you want to talk via TS, just press your PTT key, and you'll hear others talk when they do, regardless of whether you're loading maps, changing weapons, etc. Now you can't see them unless you hide the game application (for MOH, Command-H), and use command-H again to go back from the desktop to the game, but that makes your map have to load a couple of times and takes time. Windows users get a TSO (teamspeak overlay) application to run while they're playing the game, to see who's talking, but for Mac it isn't available yet, to my knowledge. Stay tuned, though.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Some Beta version bugs, soon to be corrected, we hope:
You might not be able to see people already in the room when you join, only those who come after you.
Some public servers have their flags set as "Public Server" rather than "Clan Server" and you might not be able to join until they change that.
Again, this is only for the Speex Codec, tested at 12.3 KBits. Lamron's is set at 25.9 KBits but it runs well for me. GO LAMRON!!!!
