It was mentioned recently the possibility of going to a score earning system for the server.
Usually, Free-For-All game winners are determined solely by who has the highest number of kills. In the event of a tie, the one with less deaths wins.
There are other scoring systems supported by the game that are used in ranked servers where you have to earn unlocks for new weapons.
I attempted to adapt the stock game scoring system, but as usual, it ended up being easier and more flexible to simply scrap it and write my own.
If you going to earn points by killing, it seems only fair that you lose points for dying as well.
Here's what I have set up so far:
POINTS EARNED BY ATTACKER
Base value for a kill = 10 points
MODIFIERS FROM BASE VALUE:
- Headshot: +3 - Over 50yrds: +2 - Over 75yrds: +2 - Over 100yrds: +2 - Over 125yrds: +2 - Over 150yrds: +2 (distance bonus is stackable)
FIXED VALUES - Bleed kill: 8 - Helicopter: 5
CLAYMORES - 4 points first kill, increases by 2 each kill until maximum of 12 points.
Basically, harder kills earn more, and passive kills you weren't directly involved in earn less.
SPECIAL POINTS BONUS:
- First Kill: 2X normal points for that kill. - Instant Revenge: kill the player who killed you within 10 seconds of your death. +5 points. - Quick Shot: Kill 2 players in less than 2 seconds. +10 points - Claymore Master: get four kills with claymores. Full restock of claymores. - 20+ Yard Tomahawk Kill: +5 points. - Two or more kills with one explosive: +5 points for each additional. - Nacho Claymore/C4: Kill with someone else's explosive. +5 points
POINTS LOST BY VICTIM
Deaths caused by other players or falling: -5 Deaths caused by yourself (suicide): -10
To prevent players from getting so far behind in points that they have no chance of recovering, I've capped the points loss at zero. No matter how you die or how many times, your score will never go negative.
This new score system does NOT apply to Random Weapons or Gun Game. In these game modes the winner is the one with the most kills, with no penalty for dying.

Well, most kills to me isn't necessarily the winner. Compare a "winner" with 50 kills and 45 deaths, to a person with 20 kills and 2 deaths during the same time. To me, the differences of 5 for the first and 18 for the latter tell me the latter is the real winner.

Added additional distance modifiers.
Added "Special Points Bonus": - First Kill 2x
Other special bonuses may be added for unusual events.

New Special Bonus:
Instant Revenge: kill the player who killed you within 10 seconds of your death. +5 points.
The extra 5 points earned for Instant Revenge basically cancel out the 5 points you lost when you died.
Instant Revenge is NOT earned if your killer dies by bleeding out, claymore, or helicopter.
Instant Revenge can only be earned with bullet, projectile, and grenade kills. This includes kills that happen while you are dead, such as: Martyrdom grenades and projectiles that where in-flight when you where killed.

New Special Bonus:
(suggested by RedRock)
Claymore Master: Earn four kills with claymores. Reward: full restock of claymores.
Its much easier to track claymore kills than watch each claymore to see if it successfully killed someone, so if you are fortunate enough to get multiple kills from one claymore, they all count towards your four kill total. This makes it slightly easier to earn this bonus, but the restock always leaves you with five claymores to use, even if you didn't have to use all of your original five to get the four kills.
The new claymores are available for immediate use, unless you have a weapon with an alt-mode that prevents you from using claymores (Grenade Launcher / MasterKey). In that case, you'll receive your restock the next time you spawn with a weapon that allows their use.
Its unlikely that you'll be able to successfully do it, but this bonus can be earned multiple times in the same map.

I get a lot of claymore kills early in a map, and sometimes almost all of them are set off by enemies, but it'd be nice to get some more for later in a map. They help protect my 6, either by kills or early warning if someone evil is coming that way and decides to set it off.

I've removed the "experimental" designation for this mod. It seems to work very well and trying to earn the extra modifiers and bonuses is fun. We'll be keeping the points system for normal gameplay.
I use them that way too. I've been playing around with the idea of having some type of sensor device you could place wherever you wanted that would do no harm, but simply beep whenever someone is near it.

Two new bonuses:
- Quick Shot: Kill 2 players in less than 2 seconds. +10 points (only applies to bullet and melee kills)
- Hot Potato: Get a kill using a thrown back grenade. +5
I lowered the Claymore Master requirement to four kills. Five kills with five claymores was too hard to earn.

I know there's a way to "throw back" a grenade, but everytime one comes my way, the message about that is too short for me to read and try to do it, or the grenade goes off before I can try to read it. How do I do it?

The message that flashes on the screen does take too long to read and figure out which key its telling you to press, but all its saying is to hit your regular grenade key. Anytime you hit your grenade key and you are close enough to a grenade on the ground, instead of throwing one of your grenades it picks up the one on the ground and lets you throw it instead. The 3.5 second delay starts when the original player pulled the pin. If he cooked it, there may not be much time left.
Picking up grenades is risky. If you get killed by a grenade someone else threw, you get the normal -5 points for dying. If you pick it up, it becomes your grenade. Getting killed by your own grenade counts as a suicide and is -10 points. Its usually safer to just run away and not risk it, unless you're cornered somewhere and throwing the grenade away is the only way to save yourself. That's why I thought that if you do take the risk, and manage to get a kill out of it, it deserved a reward.

New Bonus:
New bonus for the new Lethal Device:
Tomahawk Kill:
Over 20 yards +5 Over 30 yards +5 Over 40 yards +5 (distance bonus is stackable)
I was able to get a 50 yard Tomahawk kill under controlled conditions. I made a bot stand still and gave myself unlimited Tomahawks and kept trying until I hit him. So it IS technically possible, but extremely unlikely anyone will ever earn this in a real game. I had to aim very high into the sky to get the distance.

How about a smart bullet? You know, with a camera on the end of the bullet, and you shoot it and then have to guide it by mouse through a little camera view as you get it to go over or under and around structures for a hit up to 200 yrds away, say.
The old fps game MDK used to have a smart bullet, but you could only watch it go in and hit through the little camera view, you couldn't' guide it. It was cool.

REMOVED: "Hot Potato: Get a kill using a thrown back grenade." Grenade throwbacks are buggy, so we don't need something that encourages players to try.( lpmembers.proboards.com/post/26379/thread ) New Bonus: Get multiple kills from one explosive. Bonus: +5 points for each additional kill after the first one. Applies to Grenades, C4, Claymores, 30mm/40mm Grenades, and M72 LAW rockets. New Bonus: "Cheated Death." Pick up healthpack with less than 5% health left. Bonus: Full Health

Might be fun to bring back LP Flags, or something similar in function, and award points for collecting them. But if you collect it the wrong way, well... you die, hehehe. One of the things I liked about the MOH server was the random stuff you could find on the map, like the LP flags, bulletproof/bomb vests, jetpacks, etc.
