Um.... can the 50 Cal shoot through the vest too? It ought to be able to knock your opponent into the next map.... ;D

It should do at least half damage. The force from the thing would hurt you alone.

Having the .50 penetrate the vest makes sense, but isn't possible for the way the game works. There is a damage multiplier for each part of your body that controls how sensitive it is to bullet damage (I.E. a shot to the head hurts more than the same shot to a foot). Putting on the BPvest sets the multiplier to zero for part of your body. So .50 high damage x zero = zero.
Projectiles work differently. They do the same damage no matter where they hit. A knife or arrow to the foot does the same damage as the head. The game world isn't even close to simulating the real world, so many compromises have to be made. If the game designers had done a better job of anticipating every mod I might ever want to add, many things could have been improved.

How is the crossbow damage set up, with a "blast radius"? I noticed last night on Snowy Hill I would shoot ahead of a running figure, about 40 to 50 yrds, see the arrow go about 3 feet in front of intended target (a miss), but then about 1 second later, victim would collapse with arrow in him and I got kill credit from arrow. At other times, I know I shot 1 to 2 feet to the right or left of non-moving or side-stepping target, 40 yds or less, and yet I got a kill, and likewise, I saw myself sidestep and arrow go to my right about 2 feet and over my head about the same distance, yet I died. Or is this a ping issue--I was running about 120 ping, as I recall, at the time.
The graphics are nice, and the sound is cool, but I found, first 2 maps with this weapon, that while fun, it is no match for a rifle, knife, or smg at any distance, so I hope the LP menu will allow "crossbow only" restriction (new LP Menu needed?).

How is the crossbow damage set up, with a blast radius"? No, its a direct hit weapon. With the travel time it can be hard to judge when it hits. Often a player will step into the line of fire at the last second, after you've estimated that the impact has happened. A map-length shot can be 3-5 seconds flight time. After it gets too far away to see, its difficult to guestimate. Other projectile weapons are easier to judge because they are scaled up unnaturally large so you can see them all the way until impact (mortar rifle and grenades), or they leave a trail to see (bazooka and mortars). Those visual clues make them much easier to learn how to use. Projectile impact works differently than bullets. There is a box around your body that projectiles hit. This "box" is a simple rectangle, it is not the form-fitting shape used to detect bullet hits. And the box does not deform when you lean. So sometimes a very close miss will be counted as a hit, and sometimes what should count as a hit on a leaning player won't. Also, your game camera (eyes) are not exactly the same place as your 3rd person player model makes them appear. So something that appears to be flying very close to your view might actually hit you. I've researched this and consulted other scripters, but this is part of the compiled game code, and there is no way to change it so it acts the same as bullet hits. The game only comes with exploding projectiles, so it didn't matter for them. Its only noticable with precision projectiles like the arrow. Unlike other weapons, the crossbow will never be "balanced". Its only real advantage is going through BPvests. Other than that its slow and difficult to use effectively against any other weapon. Its pretty much a "expert" weapon or for those who really want to challenge themselves. There will be an update soon for the LPmenu to add this option. I'm reworking the private/public mode switch and then I'll release it. Crossbows will also be added to the random weapons mode and be selectable in Rifles+.

I also found that it's the "scare noobies away" weapon. They don't know what's hitting them, literally. ROFL

Oddly I LOVE the crossbow but still dislike the DeLisle which makes no sense as they work in a similar fashion.

Thank you, Lamron, for the nice explanation. Your evaluation of how the crossbow fits into gameplay is right on target, too. My first map, I think I went 1 and 9 with it, and on the second, I was 2 and 11 or so, before I started mixing in grenades and ended up something like 6 and 15. I wasn't caring about the score, I was having fun trying the weapon, but it certainly wasn't much help against Beer's smg or Rubble's accuracy (with everything), but I kept track of my score to see if, once again, it was true that I die a whole whole bunch everytime something new is added! The worst part was that Rubble kept telling me over and over how great Aigad was with the crossbow. Getting an LP flag and choosing adrenaline did help with using the bow, though, as I could dodge bullets better while trying to get off a semi-aimed moving bolt. I look forward to a good sneak and snipe map with crossbow restriction. Thanks for keeping it new and interesting, Lamron and Aigad.

Oddly I LOVE the crossbow but still dislike the DeLisle which makes no sense as they work in a similar fashion. But Vinnie, don't you find the DeLisle at least to be rifle-like, with almost minimal bullet flight time and dependable/predictable accuracy, in contrast to the send and pray crossbow bolt?

Actually I am finding the crossbow to be fairly accurate unless I am shooting all the way across the map. Of course the flight time is longer, but I really like using it. The DeLisle seems too slow to reload for my taste (I expect that is due to my love for the M1 Garand.) For some reason I do not mind the reload time on the crossbow - likely because I expect the longer reload time with it.

In my mind, I'm already calling the crossbow by another name, the RMW ("real man's weapon"). I think I will need to grow some hair on my chest before I can use it effectively.
