Hey Everyone! You may or may not know me, but I've been playing on LP for almost 2 years under various names. I've also been reading the forums to find help with the game (or sometimes entertainment from you guys!) i'm currently a freshman in college and I've only been able to play with you guys when I'm away from college because there is a proxy server or firewall that seems to be blocking MOH from connecting to The Playground. This makes me very sad... I wanna get back in the fun! Please help me! -Dave

Never ask what kind of computer a person uses--if it's a Mac, he'll say; if not, why embarrass him?

You should remember why you are at school, and perhaps playing an addictive game and losing sleep and study time are counterproductive!?
However, here is some basic info. A lot of colleges have that block, SW, but with student input, some have allowed a few ports to open for SPECIFIED games that the students and administration together have agreed upon. Whatever help desk you have for your college network/internet connection, you should contact them (do so anonymously, using the phone number they offer and a pay phone or campus phone, not your dorm phone or cell phone), and see if any game ports are open and who would have to grant that access if they are not, then talk to your student government to see if there is any interest in pushing for that, before your group talks to the administration. After years and years of no-way-Jose, my daughter's Arkansas college has decided to open up 5 ports dedicated to Quake 3 and some others I can't remember, but not MOH. I don't understand how a port could be limited like that, but apparently it can, perhaps because it has to do with the "master server" for those games. Likewise, a lot of the video-chat and music download ports are locked down at colleges, but surprisingly, some of them forget Skype!
Most college networks also make you agree to abide by their rules, which include no local area network that you set up (via wireless, for example). I don't know whether they have wised up and asked students also to agree not to have an outside internet provider (while they are on campus), such as using ClearWire--that would be one way to play MOH, but $$$.

Well, spending additional $$$ is pretty much out of the question, but I'll see if I can contact the student-run techsupport. If there is a port that I can use, how do I set it up? I've been a Mac user for most of my life, but I had to buy a PC as required along with everyone else in my class. Thanks for your help Red!

It won't be anything you have to do about the port, you'll just run your game as usual and try to connect to a game server, but if the port is closed, you won't be able to find any servers. It's all up to the campus IT administrators to change.
And why would you have to buy a PC? Macs can do everything you need to do for college and almost everything the pc's will do. You can browse the internet and email services, you can run Word, Excel, and Powerpoint, you can run Adobe Photoshop (if you can afford it), etc. and swap files back and forth from your mac to the pc's effortlessly.
(sigh, these skulls full of mush....., and that's just the college administrators!)

It is probably the department head that insisted on PC use, I found this a lot when I was attending classes. Professors and department heads that force you to use the equipment they like. (brands of calculators, brands of computer disk, type of paper you write the reports on, things like that) And if you do not, then you do not make the grade. Always hated it.

You don't have to tell me Red.. I've had many Macs over the past 10 years.. iBook G3, iBook G4, G3 PowerPC, G4 Cube, iMac G5, Macbook. I know Apple very well. But the Dean mandates each year that everyone gets the same computer through a contractor. Last year the freshman got Gateway laptops. This year we got Fujitsu laptops. I'd recommend Fujitsu as a great computer brand if anyone is interested - the only problems i've had with my computer all year have been with Windoze XP (XP stands for X-tra Problems). I wish I still had my Macbook.. I sold it to pay for this Fujitsu tablet PC.
