She's a pretty pup, Popeye! I've got a Rottweiler. He's AKC, but a bit small in the head and shoulders for breed standard. He's a real baby, too. Loves all people. Unfortunately, he's almost 11 years old, has arthritis pretty bad in his right shoulder, and has lymphosarcoma. He had some large masses in his throat we had removed and tested, and they came back positive. Since then I've noticed he has more small masses developing in the same area. The old boy's days are numbered. Oh, and the wife has a Yorky terrier. Free to a good home?

Yorky Terrier? And trying to say it's your wife's too....shameful!!! Bring that little thing up here for my hound to snack on...I have a 100 lb German Shepherd (Alsation (sp) to the brits) Retriever cross...got him from the SPCA when he was 1. He is now 10 but still acts like a puppy at times, which gets him the odd kick in the butt!! Actually he has been a very good family pet, very protective and loyal. Last year when we were camping in the mountains he chased a bear out of our campsite, and came back parading around like he was king of the world...My only real criticism of him is that he is an alpha dog. He understands that I am the boss but sometimes he tests my wife's authority (the dummy!!). I have posted his photo on the map area of the website...trying to post it here Sorry guys, after 45 mins of trying, I can't figure out how to make the image any bigger...Oh, and his name is Jake (edit: fixed picture size - Lamron)

I'd post pics, but his condition has really plummeted over the past week. His shoulder arthritis, which had been managed well enough by Prednizone, is now causing him considerable pain and affecting his mobility. His breathing is getting louder as the cancer invades his airway. Family discussion time. I'm afraid the time may have come.

We had him put down today. After deciding it was time, the wife thought it would be better if we just got it over with, rather than postponing it for a week. So, I took him in a few hours later.
The vet said it was cancer, not arthritis, in his shoulder. Because it had been gradual I hadn't noticed, but the vet said the mass was much larger and he had visibly lost weight. He figured the shoulder would have broken pretty soon. I suppose it was time.
He's been a great dog for 10 years. It's tough knowing he won't be around anymore. I can't compete with the champ, but I guess the duty of farting up the bedroom all night now falls on me. I'll do my best.
Rest in peace, Baron, you old hound.

I am sorry to hear about your dog too. It is a very difficult thing to have to do. How did kids/wife take it?? Will you wait a while to get another or are you finished in the dog dept?
