Consider this new one about to start, a re-do of the old BBS Dr. Who (hated the BBS ones, but maybe this new one will be better): www.scifi.com/doctorwho/I gather this version has already been playing on BBS in the UK? OOOOPS, IT STARTED ALREADY (TODAY, 3/17/06), but the 2-hr premier will replay on 3/19 at 11:30 PM and again 3/20 at 10 AM (eastern times).

Unfortunately, its hard to watch a series on the SciFi channel. They frequently change times, play episodes out of order, or replace it with no warning at all.

Unfortunately, its hard to watch a series on the SciFi channel. They frequently change times, play episodes out of order, or replace it with no warning at all. Yes, to an extent--the SF channel runs marathons of themed movies or of some series, usually tied in to some current tv/theater event, and around holidays they do the same (marathons), bumping regular programming. Yet, their schedules on-line (either directly from the SF channel or through, say, IWon.com) reflect this, and they're known in advance, so there is some warning, including on the day of the anticipated/desired show--the changes/planning are just not terribly well-thought out on the part of the SF channel programmers. Now, they really jerked around FireFly scheduling, but with Andromeda and BSG, they had their regular broadcast times with known regular repeat times, so it has been easy to "lock and load" (set the VCR for the regular and repeat times and put in a tape) so I didn't miss any episodes. There are too many commercials for me to watch a show live, in general. I wil tape Dr. Who's first 2 hours and watch it later in the week, probably after I've taped the next ep, and then see if I want to continue with it. (hmmm, I wonder if those people with digital recorders, not VCR's, do any more or any less recording than I do). Anyway, I hope Dr. Who has regular times that are dependable, or at least the SF channel needs to set that, if they want any chance of having a successful show. Busy, productive people (such as Lamron) won't put up with unreliable show delivery, and that, more than anything, could spell the end of a new show (hint, hint, G. Lucas).

BBS? you mean BBC (brititsh broadcasting company) Ok thread old but still gonna add to it. The Orig Dr whos are still playing on "UK Gold" and the new Dr Who is on BBC1 Sturdays 7.15pm (gmt) we are on season 2 episode 5 here, this weeks one (13 /5/06) sees the return of the Cyber men , cool, next to the Daleks they are my favorite Dr foes so lets hope they get justice done and don't slide to far of the track. A little sneak into the future Billy piper (Rose) is reported to be going out, it has also not been denied that the writers would not dimiss the idea of a Female Dr? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO that would not do and would kill the show, now I'm not sexist but black is black white is white and the Dr is MALE. :-) Anyway over here the new DR Who show has blown the rating away and has had nothing but good press, but then Dr who is typical british icon show, whatched it when I was a child (not a lost one) and as corney as the old ones were, it still is a must wact show for many, I believe its because its simple and does not try to exsplain all the charecters and plots to death like some other SF shows. Now we need another remake of a Brit show BLAKES SEVEN don't know if you over the pond got that one but its on the same vain as Dr who, that would be cool.

Garp, we are just finishing season one runs over here in the USA, and I don't know when yet season 2 will begin airing. We have Battlestar Galactica new season sometime in the fall or early next year, we hope. Dr. Who is interesting, but very british. I cannot understand it without the captions on. I wouldn't mind if the actor for Rose is replaced, as she is definitely not my cup of tea. A female Dr.? Well, who cares, at least not anyone who has only one season, and not a lifetime, of experience with Dr. Who. Thanks for the tips, and thanks for holding back any spoilers (seriously).

I would never spoil, but your right rose would be better out of it... but you never know :-) British yes it is but should work well overseas except for maybe some reffrances that are about and stuck in these shores. All told it's a good series and has (over here) met and excieded all exspectations.

The references aren't really a problem, it's the heavy accents Rose and her family and friends use--man, without captions, I can't understand half of what she says. The doctor is about 90% understandable. I get the feeling that many UK shows that are expected to be exported to the states choose more actors with the "uppercrust" british accents, which are easier for the average American to understand.

Gordon Bennet Rock, you think that the Rose charector as a thick accent??? well geezer you aint erd nowt yet, she as the weakest accent i've herd, if ya ever get ta clap ya minces on a show bout the eastend then ya got ya self some accents, the rose one is upper with a bit of bad acting accent added.
Oh Lamron, the puntuation is used only to slow down proper english so the americans can follow it LOL (kidding)

:-) WOW, Garp! I have never really seen the "original series" of Dr. Who. I just assumed the new one was like any old series now re-done, same characters but new actors and (mostly) new plots. But....... *****SPOILER WARNING******* don't read further if it would hurt your enjoyment of the next two episodes (final two of Season 1) in the USA of Dr. Who.I downloaded a Widget for my Mac to keep me up with the latest Dr. Who info---it connects me easily to a UK Dr. Who site---now that we're just 2 episodes from the end of Season 1 here in the USA, and I went ahead and looked at different features and peeked at future episode listings. And I saw "The Ninth Dr." on one page about the actor for Dr. Who in Season 1. www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/characters/doc9.shtml and www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/gallery/doctor9/index.shtml But Season 2 has a different actor shown with Rose and the old Dr. nowhere to be seen. What the.....? I wondered, are they changing actors again And why??? OK, so I looked around some more on the website and looked at some clips from future episodes (future to me) and it finally hit me, it really is the Ninth Doctor, not the Ninth Actor to Play The Doctor! Implying there could be 10th, 11th, 12th, or higher number Doctors, and now I understand your point, Garp, some future number Doctor could even be a FEMALE. You know, when James Bond changed actors, it was STILL Bond, James Bond, although Sean Connery to me will always be the real JAMES BOND (although I could handle Ioan Gruffudd as the new Bond--see www.imdb.com/name/nm0344435/ ), and not the same character just with a truly well done face lift after a life-altering event (so to speak). I don't know if a different actor being The (10th) Doctor will, to me, still be THE Doctor. We shall see.
