I added this section for the discussion of current local and world events. Previously, we've been putting those in the "Anything Goes" category, but there's enough items that are of common interests to us for it to warrant its own section.
Feel free to dissertate on any current news story, and whenever possible provide a link to your source.
I'm going to move a couple of recent topics to this area.

Lam,
I for one will appreciate a place to ruminate on items of particular interest ( or as an irritant ) to me!
My current exasperation includes mid term election rhetoric on Iraq, Illegals, gas $,and taxes. As a former Republican ( now without a party of backbone) I welcome anyone running for office that exhibits the slightest bit of common sense and real thought. Too much to ask I fear...! The usual hacks will come out of the woodwork again.
Respectfully, Pvt. Michaels

Oh, but please don't throw out the bathwater with the baby, or cut off your nose to spite your face, just "to send a message" to the Republicans. Yeah, the Republican congress is spending like a drunken sailor and waffling to all kinds of liberal pressures, but it would be much much worse to replace them with true liberals or (more) leftist "moderates." Yet, I agree we do need more true conservatives in power--that's what really happened with the Harriet Meiers nomination, we got offered an unknown (might have been ok, but who knows?) that the libs just looooooved, instead of a great conservative who would let us have an open forum battle (one destined for us to win) with the libs to show who they really are, and the grass roots conservatives all said NO NO NO NO to Meiers and YES YES YES to a battle (which the libs ended up cowardly running from anyway!).

I resent the fact that I never get the opportunity to vote for someone I actually want in office. We just get to vote for the "slightly less evil" of the two options. Even though we "win", nothing is really solved.

Even though we "win", nothing is really solved. I actually heard a lucid scenario for a third party candidate that might actually win.... Keep in mind Ross Perot won 19% in an age without the internet, blogs, or talk radio. The point was that ANYONE could be made famous overnight with the right handlers and exposure. IF there was ever any significance to the term " Silent Majority" it is now. No one speaks for most of us. Whacks from micro-cosms on both coasts seem to get all the attention & the ratings motivated media reports it as fact. Take Global Warming...the biggest myth to be taken seriously in modern times.... It's sort of like making jokes about bombs at the airport, though, KM. Sure, it's a joke, but people are paid to overreact massively to such possible (albeit unlikely) threats. It is just prudence, therefore, to avoid any such comments or jokes. DO NOT DO IT HERE, especially. We don't want to bring unwanted, and unwarranted, attention to our happy little haven of bliss here, right Ms. Hoopnoodle?

also since we only "rent" this space and not own it..that could violate a User agreement and result in the revoking of using this.

For those who are watching this thread, I, Killer_Monkey, apologize for what I have said earlier in this thread. I was only joking and did not mean it. I am very sorry for any confusion and I promise to never say anything like that again.
