In the 80's, I autopsied a vet at the VA hospital in Augusta who was over 100 yrs old (don't recall exact age or service) and who had fought in the Spanish-American war (1898). I remember thinking how incredible, what he had probably seen and done, maybe even ridden with Teddy Roosevelt himself at San Juan Hill, and all the changes in culture and society he had gone through.
I echo Desmo2's thoughts!

wouldn't that have been something to talk to someone that had met Teddy Roosevelt or engaged the BISMARK and the Prince Eugen in battle. saw the invention of the telegraph the telephone and the internet. REST IN PEACE and keep a vigilance over today's and tomorrow's warfighters still fighting for the same cause you did in your day. A TOAST "to the soldiers of the revolutionary war ,war of1812,the Spanish- American war, WW1 -the war to end all wars, WW 2, the Korean war,Vietnam ,Granada, Iraq past and present. THANK YOU for your service and sacrifice and let's hope that humanity will someday forget how to wage war on it's self

I have taken care of a few WW2 vets in my travels in long term care... most interesting one I talked with was a vet of the 101st airborne who jumped on on D day and survived.. Ill always have the deepest respect for our soldiers after hearing his tales of heroism and terror.. made me cry sitting right there listening to him relate the true life experiences of that fateful day.
sadly he died about a year ago now but he will be remembered always.
