Apple previews Mac OS X Snow Leopard at WWDC 2008 Developers attending Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference got a glimpse at Mac OS X Snow Leopard, the next major version of the world’s most advanced operating system. Scheduled to ship in about a year and optimized for multi-core processors, Snow Leopard will enhance the performance of Mac OS X, set a new standard for quality, and lay the foundation for future OS X innovation. www.apple.com/macosx/snowleopard/?sr=hotnewsHmmm, you fellas are gonna need an "envy" emoticon for your responses!

Interesting.. we will have to see what the next version of windows brings. I am betting on some revolutionary stuff.
I can say though from reading that.. I would not want my GPU being taxed to run non graphics applications. I want it to do graphics only.

I assume that there would be ample computing "room" on the gpu for doing whatever the developer wants in addition to "just drawing pictures": www.apple.com/macosx/snowleopard/?sr=hotnewsThis may be one way in which a game app can get a high-quality BUILT-IN TS function, or even a TS-OVERLAY Function in addition to the usual heavy-graphics game?

I use ts and ts overlay seamlessly now with out taxing my GPU. I guess it is just my preference but I want 100% of my GPU processing my FPS, and graphics quality in game. With a multi core CPU the extra tasks (ts, ts overlay, server monitors) should be no problem.

Apple needs to get into the game development business. It sure would be nice to have a company that actually made updates that did something, and didn't just ignore all the well-known bugs.

There is no TS overlay for Mac OS, and those few games that have built in speech chat (COD2, Halo) just run buggy, hence my comments (which were Mac specific). Since I run two Macs whenever I'm playing team warfare, I can see who's on TS and speaking and can move people around, etc., so that's my workaround for no TS overlay (yeah, I gotta look over to a second monitor).
Don't know, DS. Maybe this is how an OS can run newer games with older GPU's, by squeezing everything out of them, not taxing them, just using all the available unused circuits? If it isn't necessary or is detrimental, it doesn't seem that a developer would waste time or money working on it. Have to wait and see, I suppose.

I use a dual monitor set up. (Running off one pc.) I have my main screen with the game on it. Then I have my server monitor, ts, and xfire up on the second screen. COD4 does not have a TS overlay that will work yet. But I can control ts, server and xfire functions from the second monitor.

Yea the last update 1.6 for COD4 was pretty useless, it gave us a new filter for finding servers and 4 new maps. Ignoring other more important bug fixes.

Yeah, good quest., Lost. I need to locate somehow a download of the sp3 itself, in order to patch up my sp2 (not now but in the future) for when I use XP in the future (I have an XP disc, sp2), as XP will no longer be sold.

Thanks. What about bad points, new problems, new limitations, etc., with sp3? Any noticed?

The link says this is not for single computer upgrades and instead I found this: www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=2fcde6ce-b5fb-4488-8c50-fe22559d164e&DisplayLang=enDid I understand that right? My plan is to get the update and set it aside for when I do install XP sp2 later (I already have it on disc, thanks to Vinnie) on a future Mac-Intel, then I could just run the downloaded sp3-update and be ok, right? Cuz no further XP update is planned, and sales of XP are over or will be over, if I understand that.
