www.cnn.com/2008/CRIME/06/25/scotus.child.rape/index.htmlNo one is more deserving of the death penalty than someone who rapes a child. In some ways it is a worse crime than murder. This is the kind of thing that destroys the lives of the victim and family. What we need is a MANDITORY execution law, not a PROHIBITION against execution!

I saw this , this morning on MSN . I was totally appalled by it ! " The death penalty is not a proportional punishment for the rape of a child," Justice Anthony Kennedy wrote in his majority opinion. His four liberal colleagues joined him, while the four more conservative justices dissented."" www.msnbc.msn.com/id/25367455/

" The death penalty is not a proportional punishment for the rape of a child," Justice Anthony Kennedy wrote in his majority opinion. His four liberal colleagues joined him, while the four more conservative justices dissented."" This alone, if for no other reason, is why we cannot allow Barack Hussein Obama to become president--we must have a president who will appoint good SC judges, not the lackluster international-law activist Kennedy types. Likewise, we need a good strong Senate that will put the nominees up for a constitutional up or down vote--"advise and consent" is the Senate role, not "obstruct and avoid." This is one reason I am so very angry at the Republican party and have refused to donate any money to them for the last 2 years--they wasted a golden opportunity, with control of both the house and senate and a Republican president for years, but didn't force through good judges or good laws, instead abandoning conservatism and pandering to the left trying to look "compassionate" in the hope of attracting more voters by raising spending, increasing the size of the federal government, keeping our borders open, supporting competing languages in US business and government, failing to wage war in an effective manner in the mideast, failing to make permanent the Bush tax cuts, and so forth. So I'll support McCain and also true conservative legislators, and once McCain is in office, then we conservatives will turn up the heat and get him to do what he should--none of that green crap, instead, red white and blue stuff!

If they will not kill him, put him in a cell with the biggest baddest gayest inmate they have and let him live out the rest of his days like that.
There is no punishment harsh enough in my opinion for that crime.

I too agree. Child molestors are the worst of the worst in any society. To put them to death almost seems to good for them, but I am all for it.

I feel kinda bad talking about this, and I'll explain why breifly:
My girlfriend (yes I got a new one) was molested by her uncle when she was young, and he was convicted of it, along with some other cases. She won't admit that he raped her, but I know he did. Now he only got 10 years for his crimes, which is by all means not nearly enough. He himself was victim to horrendous sexual abuse as a teenager, which is why he did this to kids. Not an excuse in any way. But after he was convicted and sent to jail, he turned his life around. He went to every type of help he could get, and he truly honestly knew what he did, knew it was wrong and made it his life ambition to never do it again. I have met him, and talked to him personally about this and I truly beleive he has changed, and will never recommit even though he is a lever 3 offender.
I beleive that to be a very rare case though. I don't beleive most people who are that messed up are able to change like he did. And because of that, I beleive that there should be no mercy with these horrible people. They may have the ability to change later, but that does not erase what has been done. And they should pay for what they did, not be let off easy because of what they may do.

I don't care about their potential for rehabilitaton. It doesn't change what they did in the past, and their past is what we're interested in punishing them for!

I am glad to hear that he got help and appears to be "cured" however let me ask this.
Would you ever leave one of your children alone with him?
I really do hope he is rehabilitated, but that would be extremely rare for a molester.

EXTREMELY rare indeed! I would never leave any children anywhere near him.

It is irrelevant whether I would leave children with him, because he refuses to be around any kids. He won't go to valleyfair, the state fair, parks, etc. He has also told his whole family not to let my girlfriend around him without someone else there with them. He is aware of his problem and knows that under certain circumstances it might happen again, so he tries extremely hard to avoid such circumstances.
But as was said already, he should not have had that second chance. He should have rotted in jail, or been executed promptly. But at least he didn't take advantage of his second chance. I am proud of him for turning his life around the way he did.
