www.whitsoftdev.com/powerdimmer/Installation: Unzip and put the PowerDimmer.scr into "C:\WINDOWS\system32" This screen saver dims the screen instead of completely blanking out the desktop. Sometimes I'm not at the computer, but its busy doing something and I want to keep track of a progress bar without having to bump it out of screensaver every few minutes. This will let you do that. You can set the fade speed and final brightness. I've got it set to 20%, so I can still read things but its dim enough that I'm not worried about hurting the monitor.

Is it still true that dimming is needed for LCD's? I thought it was only the old crt's that you needed to use screen savers (hence the name) and dimmers.

still a cool effect. even if not needed on LCD. I still have a CRT as my secondary monitor on my dual monitor set up.

LCD Monitors can still get a burnt-in image. So it is useful for LCDs still.

Here's another one, scroll down to find DimSaver. www.donationcoder.com/Software/Skrommel/I switched to this one because it also hides the mouse, so you don't end up with a dark screen with a bright mouse still showing. Also, Power Dimmer didn't reliably dim both monitors. Sometimes only the primary would dim.

One screen saver has a banner or phrase or clock that jumps around on an otherwise dark screen. It would be cool to have an application process progress bar or download progress bar show up that way.
