Now this is an eye opener.....
"From March, all internet service providers (ISPs) will have to keep data about e-mails sent and received in the UK for a year. The content of individual e-mails will not be kept by the authorities, but the timing and number of each communication will be stored.
At the moment, a similar database of telephone records - fixed and mobile - is held by telephone companies. The implementation of an EU directive, agreed after the alleged plot in August 2006 to set off bombs aboard transatlantic airlines, will extend the information available to the Government to include e-mail and internet traffic. "
LOL I think my email box's will fill up the Data base with all the spam I get :-)
I don't mind as I have nothing to hide, but it does seem to be a little OTT oh well thats the world we live in.

Now this is going to get me some stick, but what the....... See! you americans moan about losing some little freedoms? you must realise that compaired to most if not all of the rest of the world you have vastly more freedom from spying/big brother than we do, this email thing is just the tip of the "Big brothers watching you" iceburg, over here we have more to come, unlike you we have NO say in it. I do envy America in that freedom you have and do get annoyed when I hear how hard done by some of you think you are this one thing I would gladly swop with you ;D I will end here as i don't want to get into poltics of the thing as we differ far to much

Garp I am going to have to agree with you. We enjoy much more freedom here in the states from big brother. The thing we conservatives get up in arms about is exactly what you are complaining about. We do not want European style govt here in the states. It is not a bash against you personally, and is not a bash against your people as a populous.
The patriot act is a necessary temporary tool we must use for now to combat the terrorist threat. It doesn't mean that every phone line in the USA is tapped, there would be no tolerance for that.
