Guys, we discussed this new movie briefly in the Shout box, but I thought you might be interested in a review of it, and then I'll credit the source. You might recall, if you read the Shouts, that Lamron loved it and I said I had no interest in Tarantino or the movie (actually, I mentioned the obvious Hollywood viewpoint represented in the movie that it's bad to be pro-gun, pro-war, anti-Nazi), so there's your background for this review (slightly edited for privacy):
So, that's from my middle daughter at college.
Obviously:
1) She's a chip off the old block as regards studies and word usage, etc.
2) She's a Tarantino afficionado--must get that from her crazy Uncle on her Mother's side! "All Style" indeed!!! The guy's a degenerate porn producer!
3) It shows the viewpoint against people using guns and fight evil," the viewpoint I've alluded to, and I did NOT discuss this movie with her at any time before she saw it or wrote the "review."
4) It's a good review and, given that she knows me well, I guess I'll have to see it now (when it comes out in DVD!).
Tonight the local cinema was $3 a flick, so we went to see Inglourious Basterds with some friends, J & J-ette, G and S, etc. There was quite a crowd actually. I was skeptical of the movie cos I didn't know anything about it except the title and the starring role of Brad Pitt, but it ended up being a terrific movie. Lots of swearing (when they spoke English) and mom wouldn't be able to enjoy it cos of how bloody and violent it was, but it was really great. I loved it. Brad Pitt's character was from the Smokies and had a fabulous accent, it was hilarious. The audience just cracked up every time he spoke. It's a Tarantino, too, so it was all style. Great movie. Rather long (2.5 hours) but we never got bored, it just moved right along through a great plot. The ending was superb, too; poetic justice at its finest. We all had a really great time. Best Tarantino I've seen, and best Brad Pitt as well. I highly recommend it to dad (and mom if she covers her eyes! I had to at some parts :l ). The only thing I didn't like about it is that it probably proved that everyone is just as capable of committing the same atrocities the Nazis committed, since everyone hates the Nazis and was cheering whenever they were being butchered :/ it's understandable, but, still!
We went to an early showing (6:30) so that we would have time to do homework afterwards, so that's what I'm doing now. I'm reading Chaucer and studying English grammar. Crazy intense class. We had a huge debate that lasted almost fifteen minutes about whether the prepositional phrase 'in the refrigerator' was adverbial or adjectivial. I've been writing a lot, too, for my non-fiction writing class. It's a cool class.
