The dedicated server thing is technically true, but not really what we want. Apparently, there will be servers run by the game company, and you can rent one from them and have some basic admin controls. So the server will be dedicated in the sense that there will be a computer somewhere running it, but can't run it on your own computer. That means there really won't be any mods possible, and they will control the pricing, and when they decide to shut it down you won't be able to play at all anymore.
COD:Black Ops is claiming that it will have REAL dedicated servers, so we'll see. And the COD game engine is more suited for mods than the Frostbite engine used for BC2 and the new MOH.
I'd be happy to forget the new games and just play MOH:SH or COD:MW if anybody would play with me.

The MOH:SH server is back up for tonight, come play! Simple monitor to check who's there: www.lamronsplayground.com/monitor.htmlRemember, we can't all stare at the server monitor waiting for someone else to join first!

And this closes the dumb stuff i've read on here (save one person complaining the guns weren't shiny enough to look real - flat black anodizing anyone?). As for "crossbow weaponry" .......I'm not even gonna address this....
You say this is dumb stuff to have an option to shut off something you don't want on a game server?! Just like the bazookas on alot of spearhead servers were shut off bc some servers didn't want them used?
If ya don't want it, shut it off and don't use it in multi player on your server! This is an easy enough concept to understand, and would save people the time having to mod crossbows into the game as was done in spearhead. Source forum.ea.com/eaforum/posts/list/390/971189.page#6435011

Lots of problems with the weapons not being accurate, hope the game doesn't get delayed too long. forum.ea.com/eaforum/posts/list/390/971189.pageYa know, teleport ammo, shocking ammo, even for giggles, a boxing glove tipped bolt etc.. would be cool for a DM game Lamron hehe Lets just save the time and everyone login and support crossbows for weapons in multiplayer.

Was anybody doing this other than AIGAD and I? If they were, I'll bet ours was the best looking and most functional!

There were crossbows in a Mac game, a mod of Marathon, called Excalibur: Morgana's Revenge v3.0. I mentioned it here some long time ago, as it's out for Windows or Mac in native language, a free download. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Excalibur%3A_Morgana%27s_Revengeemr.excaliburworld.com/emr3/index.htmlThey were, as I recall, also in another Mac/Windows game, No One Lives Forever 2: A Spy in H.A.R.M.'s way (I don't know about NOLF 1), and that's a very very old game. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No_One_Lives_Forever_2:_A_Spy_in_H.A.R.M.%27s_WayI can't recall whether they were in the Tom Clancy series of games, though. Still, none of these did it with the style and substance that it was done here!!!!

Speaking of stealing ideas from modders (remember my "Sunglasses" COD4 mod finding its way into COD5 ?), check out this video describing some new game modes for COD:BO. The game modes are pretty interesting, but pay attention to the one described at 2:02 minutes. Sound familiar?
