Well, its going to be dark here for a while. The ice stom last night convinced a tree in my yard to pull down the power line. Unfortunally, it pulled the lines right off the house. Normally, it could be fixed by ladder, but I have a roof over my breezeway that makes it so you have to actually climb up on the roof and walk over to the electrical hookups. There's no way for that to happen with 6 inches of snow and ice up there, so I'm without power until all the snow and ice melts off.
To make this post, I have a 12v power pack running though a power inverter. That's powering the modem, router, and laptop. Looks like I only have a couple of more minutes before that dies and I get cut off.

But you know, reading that, it just sounds like the beginning of a very exciting disaster/survival action-thriller!

The excitement level goes way down when you realize how boring it is to sit in the dark.

LOL, true dat. Try sitting in the hot dark (hurricane, Florida) with 2 fridges worth of food going bad and you can't open the windows because of the fist-sized mosquitoes (when the wind and rain aren't coming in)!

I went up on the icy roof today and risked life and limb to reconnect the power lines. There's more snow on the way, so it was today or nothing. It wasn't easy, but I have power again! ;D

I discovered another causualty of my power outage. Over the winter I keep my motorcycle battery plugged into a charger, so I don't have to buy a new one every year. The charger has status lights and a little fan in it, and when the power went out they kept running off the motorcycle battery. Result: DEAD battery. GRRRR! another annual motorcycle battery purchase!
