the quickest way to notice would be on the homepage of these forums. open firefox and another browser side by side and you'll see what it's taking out of websites you visit. Visit my website here in IE then in FF there are 3 google ads you can test with. My dip is good too btw homeandhobbyhelpfulls.synthasite.com/7-layer-taco-dip.php

Very nice, Major! That did exactly like you said, and I see that with Safari (Mac OS Browser) and pop-ups on, there are still 3 ads by Google and a larger ad about a nursing school that are ABSENT in Mac FireFox with AdBlock Plus installed!
Thanks everyone!

I noticed a neat thing about Firefox fixing someone's machine... I wish I'd looked at the options menu alot sooner! In ver. 8 it gives the option to [Load windows and tabs from last time] underneath it says to [Don't load tabs until selected] checkbox is new if you upgraded and didn't happen to check out the new stuff, this is awesome! especially for me and my 30+ tabs I had sent a msg about an all stop button to them in the suggestion box awhile back...looks like they did one better eh.

Is there a browser that is NOT IE that the internet will THINK is IE? That is, some websites REQUIRE IE8, but with the mac, they stopped making IE updates with 5.2.3, and those persnickety websites refuse to make the "next" button work unless they detect IE8. But most of the time, FF or another browser (not the Mac OS Safari browser) will function just fine on those IE-designed websites, usually financial or governmental pages where a sign-up and/or payment with credit card is involved. Suggestions? I usually have to wait until the next day and use my work PC, but for private or NSFW issues, I have to go to the public library (still NSFW in some cases, though) or an internet cafe. Waste of time and money, IMHO, just to, for example, renew my frigging Arizona medical license!

Cool, Major, thanks! That seems to work for FireFox on the Mac to make a website think I'm using IE8. I didn't go all the way trying it, to make sure the page buttons worked, but at least I didn't get the "must DL IE8" warning and the neeed "submit" button on my page came up now. thanks again.

I was setting up Thunderbird portable today because I can never remember my pass words for any of my emails except 1. Got it set up and working great after I copied my desktop versions settings files over. Didn't have to change anything. The really cool part of this is I went ahead and decided to install Firefox portable as well. I couldn't seem to get it to work like the non-portable version by copying the settings files. After an hr of searching I saw something mention "Sync" under the tools menu. I gotta say I thought that was for cell phones and tablets or something. This is the coolest thing to discover for Firefox. After I set it up, I closed the desktop version, opened the portable and it copied all the bookmarks, passwords, a list of the tabs I had open in the non-portable version and all the settings. It did everything except the addons. Reinstalling windows in the future will go even faster now. Now I can setup Firefox on all my machines identically just by typing in that code. This feature is AWESOME! I'm sure it will go cross platform also Redrock if you would want it to. portableapps.com/

Save as PDF 1.5 by Pdfcrowd team No more cut and paste to save that info. Open Office has a PDF editor addon to get rid of the junk you don't need.... if you bother to edit it that far

I ALWAYS have zillion tabs open in firefox but not loaded until I click on them. Firefox was taking too long to load I noticed the memory usage even on unloaded tabs, so I went looking...
THIS little addon called Too Many tabs addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/toomanytabs-saves-your-memory/
....lets you add another row so you can group your tabs into sectional rows chosen by a little button on the left..row 1 row 2 etc when you click on it.
You can color code the each row if you like to look by color. Just right click your tab and send it to the too many tabs row number. After you send it to the row you want, right click on it and pin it to that row if you you want to keep the tab until you delete it, or it will only save until next time you use it.
I put all my tabs into 3 rows of 14 + a few tabs in another row and it dropped the memory usage from over 500,000K to just under 300,000K
I went with 14 per row (widescreen)so I didn't have to scroll sideways to see more.
Now, all your tabs can be closed and save memory. It's nice because if there are places you visit every day, you just go to that row and click each tab as you need it and can close it.
This saves the icons next to them as well in case your used to which ones your looking for.
Default number of rows is 6. You can add more rows to it, but lets face it, it would start to look like your bookmarks

I don't get it, Major. A Tab is an active connection, so, of course it uses memory. If you are not switching back and forth between tabs for some reason, why even have them open? Just make them bookmarks on your bookmark bar. It doesn't take very long at all just to pulldown the right end of the bookmark bar for those you can't see. And that will save you hundreds more K of memory.

That does seem like an awful lot of tabs to be open at once. I don't think I ever have more than 6-8 at a time. I can't imagine why I would ever need 3 rows of 14 each!

I'm always checking same things every day so I have all the tabs I use in the browser all the time. My firefox is set to not open tabs unless I click on them, but for some reason those tabs still use up memory. I could just as easily use bookmarks I guess, but this is easier for me with the stuff I use everyday The toomany tabs addon makes the tabs you use every day look like tabs, but act more like an advanced looking bookmark just like in your bookmarks toolbar. I guess more of a visual sorting method. _
