My old faithful Logitech MX310 mouse is starting to show its age. The buttons aren't as responsive as they used to be. I can't have that when I'm throwing Tomahawks at Lost_Child! This is my second MX310, when the last one wore out I purchased another identical mouse. Sadly, they have been discontinued, and the few available are now outrageously priced. Shopping for a new mouse can be stressful. You can read all the specs and reviews, but in the end the thing that really matters is the feel. Its like shopping for shoes, none of the ones you try on are as comfortable as the old ones you wore into the store. After much deliberation and research, I decided to get an actual "gaming" mouse, the Logitech G502 Proteus Spectrum. Kudos to Amazon, who delivered it less than 14 hours after I ordered it at 8pm. It has great reviews, but we shall see if it gets MY seal of approval. Once I learn to use an 11 button mouse, you'll all be in trouble! As I get it set up and start using it, I'll be adding my review here.

This mouse is insanely sensitive. I had to turn it down to 1800 DPI to be able to use it. It has a DPI shift key to temporarily change it while its held down. I have that set to 200 DPI. The shift is useful if I'm using a graphics program and want to move very tiny amounts, or when sniping to making aiming more precise.

First significant problem found. The Logitech software that controls what all the buttons do won't resume after sleep. When the computer wakes up, none of the extra functions work until you close and restart the software. GRRRR
I uninstalled the newest version and installed the previous version and that seems to have fixed the problem for now.

I used to have the Logitech MX518 and it had a + and - button on top to control the dpi sensitivity. I never found much use for it though... I've used a Razer Deathadder 3500 for a couple years now and I've favored a 1700 dpi setting. Recently, I upgraded my monitors to a single 34" ultrawide 3440 x 1440 and I think I might have to change my mouse setting for this beast! lol It's too bad COD4 doesn't have the correct aspect ratio for this monitor. COD4 recognizes the native resolution of 3440 x 1440, but it will only use a 16:9, 16:7 ratio and stretch the pixels. I can set it to 2560 x 1440 and have a 1:1 pixel ratio, but it will have black bars on the side. I guess I'll have to live with it! lol
2560 x 1440 1:1 w/black bars
3440 x 1440 stretched with 16:9

The Mouse Wheel:
I hate free spinning mouse wheels. Give me my clicky wheel! Some mice are switchable, but usually the click mode is too soft. This click mode on this mouse has nice hard bumps between spots. So much so that I wish it had a rubber stripe on it for better grip. The metal wheel is slightly too slick, but quite manageable and I'm sure I'll get used to it. It is a fairly large wheel and that helps with getting leverage with your finger to move it. For the most part I'm happy with it, and occasionally I might even switch to free rolling for a long text document.
The left/right tilt of the mouse wheel is about the same as every other tilt wheel I've played with. The wheel has to have some side to side play on its axle to spin smoothly, but this means you have to take up that slack before you can begin to push against the side click switch. There is a distinct feeling of sliding to one side of the axle, then more resistance when you hit the switch itself. It makes for a sloppy feel and makes it difficult to tilt click without accidentally rolling or middle clicking. I found this to be simultaneously too hard to use when I wanted to, and too easy to accidentally click. My old mouse didn't have it and I won't miss the feature. The customization software lets you assign anything to any button, including disabling it. So I disabled the tilt function entirely. I use a AutoHotKey script for that anyway. When I hold another button my scroll wheel becomes a left/right instead of an up/down until I release it.

Still trying to learn/remember all the buttons. The slight hesitation is getting me killed in the game. Hopefully, this will continue to improve with practice. I wish the buttons were different colors, if I glance down at my mouse, everything is a uniform black and impossible to differentiate the line between to adjacent buttons. I ended up binding two buttons to melee because I kept hitting the wrong one.

I thought I had posted here about my mouse. It's a Razer Naga Epic. Has lots of buttons, including 3 rows of 4 on the right thumb side. They are easy to find by feel, due to location, and the 2nd and 4th rows have little tiny raised bars at the bottoms of their key to help with blind positioning. I still have bound some keys twice, because I still push the wrong key, or at least push two at once, but it's a nice little mouse. I have some of the keys set to change the sensitivity up or down, but I've never really learned how to use that, or it hasn't helped. I usually have it at 1200 dpi, but occasionally go to 1800. Higher than that and I can't play CQB at all, and I haven't found any sensitivity settings to help with sniping. Or at least, I don't have time to change the dpi to try to snipe before either I'm dead or my sniping chance is gone. But it's a great little mouse anyway.

Well, it made it 10 months before dying.
It got very slow and jittery tonight and finally became unusable. Dug the old mouse out of a box of parts. I replaced this mouse for a reason.
Logitech's website sucks. It says you can submit a warranty claim, but you can't. The linked pages go around in circles, and the instructions don't match any of the buttons actually on the page.

Due to my Injury back in 2007 I am unable to use a standard mouse anymore as it aggravates the nerve damage and becomes very painful to play after about 10 min. I changed to This mouse a few years back and have been very pleased with it. No it is not a fancy gaming mouse, but it serves my needs well, and after relearning muscle memory I can FPS game with it fairly well. It only requires me to move my thumb, index and middle finger to use. No wrist action.

It lives!
Logitech finally responded to my support ticket asking for warranty replacement and suggested that I click the buttons for over a minute while unplugged, then try again. Surprisingly, this did fix it. The only explanation that I can think of is that there is a capacitor somewhere in the mouse and that clicking while unplugged drained the last little bit of stored power out of it, forcing a full reboot of the hardware when I plugged it back in.
It took me too long to learn how to use this mouse and get all the buttons assigned/learned. I would have replaced it with the same mouse.
