My wife would not let our firstborn cry at bedtime, she'd go running to her and pick her up and hug her, sing to her, etc. etc. etc. I always said just let her cry, she'll go to sleep when she gets tired, but my wife wouldn't listen. Consequently, the little critter never slept through the night a single time until she was 3 yrs old! But that was my wife's problem, as I wouldn't go to the child unless I thought she might be sick. She turned out just fine, too.
If your baby is breast feeding, yes she'll tend to wake up every 3 or 4 hours day or night, but that should shortly get better, and if it's formula, she should be able to sleep all night. In the meantime, how much does she weigh, rookie? How much do you weigh? Just set her schedule for her--she'd depending upon you to set the rules, not the other way around. Put her to bed in the evening when she should sleep, and let her cry herself to sleep if needed, and get her up in the morning when she needs a change and a feed and you two are up out of bed, too.
Just my long-distance diagnosis, without knowing any facts or personalities, etc. Don't you just love busybodies and know-it-alls?!?!?!
Seriously, hope she, you, your wife, and your Jr. do well with this significant family change!
