I'm trying to do a repair install of Windows because Media Player suddenly decided that ALL file types are unsupported and lost all of its codecs (GRRRRR!!!!!). I can't reinstall Windows because I'm missing a file. I don't know how that's possible since all the Windows files are on the Windows disk. (stupid computer ) If someone could send me this file I would greatly appreciate it. Its for Windows XP SP2: c:\$WIN_NT$.~BT\ai5d5qam.sys I don't even know what it is, but the computer claims its important. GRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!

I've tried searching for that file, but I don't seem to have it. What version do you have? 9, 10, 11? I have 11, so maybe that version doesn't have that file.
I would suggest reinstalling it from microsofts webpage.

I did reinstall it from Microsoft's page and it made no difference. I even tried installing the newer V11, but still nothing.

Huh... I see a Redrock posting soon saying get a mac.
That file doesn't even look like something that windows uses. It looks more like spyware, because of the random ai5d5 thing. So I don't know what to tell you, cuz I don't have that file and if reinstalling didn't work then thats all the ideas I have for you.
Maybe you could do a search on google for that file, who knows maybe someone else had the same problem.

I finally managed to convince it to do a repair install without it. So I got it working, I just had to reinstall my sound drivers and virtual CD-ROM and virtual DVD drives again afterwards.

Sorry, I was too busy enjoying my Mac to understand all that.

Yeah yeah, macs never have problems. Yeah we all know that. I admit windows is a piece of road litter, but there really isn't anything (affordable) better. Linux is starting to get a little better, but windows is still sadly the best out there.

Your toaster doesn’t crash. Your kitchen sink doesn’t crash. Why should your computer? Think of the countless hours you would save if your PC worked on your time — not the other way around. Then think about a Mac. It just works. www.apple.com/getamac/works.htmlPS. You get what you pay for.

Yeah I had very few problems with my 3 macs. The worst that ever happened is a HD shit the bed ... but that could happen to anyone.

I think I've been lucky so far with my new computer. I haven't had any problems at all. Well I did when I was overclocking it, but thats normal to have problems when doing that. I also did A LOT of research to make sure all the parts I got would work together. Probably more than most people would do when building their own computer.

Very Nice, Pres. That is a commendable, and desirable, skill to have. I wish I were able.
My younger brother uses old Mac chips (motorola 68000) at work to build processor boards for projects his engineering company creates and sells to well-known big businesses for mega bucks, but he prefers to build his own pc's at home for gaming, and he thus usually gets a hot, maxed out windows box for about a third of the cost of buying it like that from the companies.
I like to think he was adopted.

I find Windows XP to be very stable. When it has problems or crashes its always for the same reason we get server crashes: I'm trying to force it to do something it was never designed to do. Apparently they don't put alot of thought into "what strange thing might Lamron do to our product". For some strange reason they keep thinking that I will use software the way it was intended.

That is just hilarious--you're giving Windows an inferiority complex--It's not good enough for you! We love you, man, don't change!

I built my PC in Jan 02... it has never had a compatibility issue due to hardware. And you are right Red, I built my PC for less than a thrid what retail costs with all high end components. It is amazing to me what they charge for a PC (or a Mac for that matter.)

i agree so far xp has been the most stable... was using ME and it was the worst damn OS i had ever used in my life... i swear i had to reinstall every 3 months... gave up and went to Linspire... damn good linux based OS... love the hell out of it then i came back to the darkside with windows cause linux is still in its infant stages for game compatibility and gaming companies dont write the programs to work on it ... never had spyware or viruses. ill agree a mac is a good box but got to concider cost vs. function.. i can get the same things done with my home built PC that cost me 250 bucks that i can do with a mac that would cost 1200 to 2000 for comparable power... just cant cough up that kinda coin. lol plus i can play the Iron Belt map sorry had to RED.. talk to you all soon...
