Hi,
Well I sprung for COD2 just incase our loving dictator decides to switch LK to that. I have a problem already.. game loads fine but cant play it graphics card I have chokes hard on it. It screen laggs terrible even in single player. I have a ATI Radeon xpress 200 card stock in this comp. what are you guys using and how well does it work for you? I would like some feed back before spending the money on a new card that im going to have to have.. thanks for the imput and all comments welcome.

first thing you have to figure out is what kind of expansion slot you have that will handle a graphics card. AGP..PCI-E or if you have to use just a PCI card.Also since you have IGP it will share your memory. There may be a spot in BIOS that will allow you to up the amount of system RAM the graphics will utilize. The only I would increase it is if you have at least 1 gig of RAM.
I am running an AMD3800 with 2 gig PC3700 RAM and an X800XL-256 AGP ATI card.

the vid card is built into my board... simple matter of a jumper to turn it off.. have an open AGP port to exspand too or could use an PCI slot have 2 more open.. have 1 gig 3700 ddr mem in this box..
does COD2 run ok for you Mar? Thanks for the imput.

COD2 runs fine..I would be looking for an ATI based graphics card possibly(reduces chances of having driver conflicts since you have ATI on board) the X1600 range..depending what you want to spend. www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814102057something like this possibly. I was considering buying the X1950 for an upgrade for me but doesn't seem to make sense |

My standard off the shelf G5 iMac has ATI Radeon X600 XT with 128 Mb RAM. Runs COD2 sweet. I didn't have to decide anything about the graphics card or video memory.
Step 1: Get Mac. Step 2: Open box. Step 3: Plug in. Step 4: Play.

Agree with RedRock, on this one....
My Mac G5 came with a GeForce FX5200 AGP
Runs COD2 perfectly with no set up or configuration required
Install/Play.....

ummm and what maps on MOH cant you run with those out of the box High priced Macs RED & Pvt. ? lol sounds like there might be a few issues with more than your graphics chipset there.. at least I can modify my PC to do what I want it to do. and with out spending a small fourtune. But thanks for the advice.  |

But thanks for the advice. Only one, so far. How many can you run without windows freezing up on you or your needing to go defrag your disk or clean off some virus or spyware program or reinstall Windows or some corrupted driver? And you get what you pay for. I'd rather have a great pc than cigarettes, beer, motorcyles, cheap floozies, hockey tickets, or any other number of totally unnecessary things that in just a few months would pay for the hottest, bestest, newest Mac there is. Got my Mac Dec. 06 and will NOT need to upgrade my vid card for years to come, but actually, by then I'll just get the next new Mac with better and bigger vid card AGAIN ALREADY INSTALLED AND READY TO PERFORM! Nice try, though. Ya got spunk, kid. |

havent had to do any of that to play MOH Red... totaly my fault for not researching the vid card before i bought the pc, could have spent a lil more and got higher card and should have. have not had virus problems spyware or had to reinstall windows since i got this box... if you have the right programs then there is not much trouble with it running smoothly.. I have used mac's before that froze up just as bad as windows and had to do cold reboots to get em going again.. but hey to each their own. is ok Red I understand if your set in your ways nothing wrong with that Ole' Man hehe |

Hi DS Actually down to two problem maps..and for the record I think the issues encountered had nothing to do with graphics cards, OS, etc...I really think it was a browser issue encountered during the downloads. LOL not all of us were born with silver spoons in our mouths Pvt hehe.. never had a comp bought for me ... first comp was one I saved up for... remember tandy (radio shack) a tandy 1000hx.. aa those were the days no hard drive memory was exilent if you had 256 K and no internet but thought i was in heaven... next comp was a modern one that i built myself from old comps no one wanted a true frankinstien box but worked well for a long time... mmmmm thats right forgot cant do that with mac they are propriatary lol. as for the dl I imagin you do have troubles now and then always a pain in the A$$ to find mac dl's just like linux (wich i prefer to both win and mac os) .. but in the end I hope your Dad didnt have to cut his retirement fund to get you your mac hehe... see ya in the game always fun playing against ya.. laters

Oh, yesssssss. Had to give up caviar for a day to buy my Mac. Darn difficult fitting it into the Rolls, too, as the grey poupon has to go somewhere, too, don't you know, sniff.

As a young lad, I refused to wear a pencil pocket protector, and I refused to buy a computer that required me to remember and enter arcane codes and commands to do work (recall early MS DOS). When the Mac first came out with the WIMP interface (windows, icons, mouse, pull down menus), I was in heaven. So I bought my first computer even before I bought my first car, when I was still in training. And it has only gotten better!
Yes, freezes under the old Mac OS were common, with programmer-switch interrupt/restarts needed, but that's not the case with OS X. Lam says Windows does well unless you try to get it to do something it's not designed to do, and I believe that general statement. The problem for me is that what it should be designed to do is work quickly and intuitively in loading and running apps and saving and printing files and switching windows all quickly and seamlessly, without slowing down or crashing. That has not been my experience with Windows.
But I'm glad you're open to change, too, dreamingshadow. Enjoy your Mac-lite OS (= modern Windows).

do belive i have decided on the ati 9250 ... not the highest powered card but more than adiquite for my needs and price fits.. looks to be a 256 mg PCI-E card.. thanks for the help |

PCI-E is a different interface than PCI. It is a replacement for AGP and is NOT compatible with a PCI slot! Make sure of what you are getting especially if ordering on-line. From what you have said you need either AGP or PCI.
