thanks was just wondering since i have never owned a mac.. my silly sister does though and now she cusses it all the time. i just laugh at her.. and well i guess your lucky. hard drives in mac are made by same ppl that make for pc they can hold either os. over the years i have only had 1 go out on me. I'll conceed that mac is a hell of a buisness computer but still lagging behind in the gaming area but catching up fast. soon it wont matter what os just the price you pay for it.
love these lil chats about PC vs. mac keep em coming lol..
come over to the dark side Red.. you know you wanna hehe

I have always contended that Mac machines were far superior to PC's in design, efficiency, and reliability. My problem with Mac has always been limited software availability and of course price. I actually owned a Mac myself back in the 1980's. It never gave me any problems. I have a few family members who own both and prefer the Macs to the PC's. My thing is this... it does seem like a punk move for Mac to decide to make their machines run Windows too. It is a clear admission that their system is the less popular. And even with the issues that PC's sometimes have, they are still the better buy. I can upgrade ANYTHING on my PC at any time I choose to - at a reasonable cost for parts. AND I have a CHOICE in who makes the parts I buy. With a Mac is it not true that you have to buy everything from them and that upgrading is still not an option on most of their machines? I built my current PC in January of 2002. It is still problem free and fast as hell. It does everything I ask of it. It also cost me less than $900 for ALL parts, including the case. I could not have gotten a Mac that performs as well as my PC for that price - most importantly I could not have built one myself as that option is not available, or at least wasn't when I built this one. Are parts availble now from different manufacturers to build a Mac? If they were I would build one.

Macs aren't targeted for the under-the-hood tinker-ers, but "for the rest of us," the normal people, people who just want it to work right and work right out of the box, with no problems, no reading of the manual, and no techical nerdy knowledge needed, and to last for years even with OS and program upgrades. You CAN certainly add or swap out components on the Mac the same as with other pc's, but most things are already there and have been chosen quite well by Apple to suit most users, even for gaming--so many things are standard with the Mac, from wireless to network to sound to video, that I don't NEED "choice" the way you tinker-ers do. More power to you, but we're talking (sorry) Apples and oranges here.
The only thing Apple has never licensed or let be copied is the actual OS--compare IBM, which let its OS (actually, Windows) be used by any cheapo box and chip maker and is now defunct as a computer maker. It's probably that one thing that has kept Apple from being eaten up by other pc makers, and what makes Mac a little (and I still insist, it's only a little, in the grand scheme of things, and well worth it regardless) more expensive.
This is a lot akin to building a house--my grandfather, father, and brothers could do it (and Dad did) for a whole lot less than having someone else do it, and it'd be better in quality and function, probably, but I can't, and I don't want to--I have far more important things to do with my time--and the next best thing is available for me to buy anyway, so I don't have go slumming.
I sense that my tirades and Mac evangelism are becoming tiring, so I am going to back off. Sometime this Spring, Apple will release the next major OS, OS 10.5 ("Leopard"), and I am considering upgrading, but I certainly don't need to; OS 10.4.9 is just dandy. I also plan to get an iPhone in the Summer when they are available, and daughter #2 will buy her own new MacIntel system sometime this summer (for College), so I do anticipate I will have some new information/experience/raves to pass on eventually, but for now I'll just lie low and let you SuperCompDudes be!

Sounds boring to me! What's the point in buying ANYTHING if I can't modify it and make it better? I can't think of a single thing in my house that I didn't tear apart and rebuild the minute I got it home from the store. People say I have a disorder, but I think they're crazy. ;D

I don't have a whole lot to say about this that hasn't already been said. But I can say this: Mac is not assimilating with PC, PC is assimilating with Mac. The new PC OS? The five major new features are all rip-offs of Mac OS X (gadgets? search feature? explorer? calendar? exposé?) these five items all work and look VERY similar, but for a good reason: When a good idea comes by, why not imitate it? tinyurl.com/ld67f Props to Microsoft for picking up on these user-friendly goodies, Props to Apple for coming up with them two years earlier and just recently winning the usability, functionality, and appearance awards. Seriously. Just go to www.apple.com/getamac/. The switch is easy and well worth it. You'll never even look back. ==EDIT== Had to throw in the TinyUrl because the post editor was adding a random space and breaking the weblink when I posted it.

lol red.. well if your one of those kinda people that calls AAA to come change your tire for you cause you dont know how you may be better off with the mac. for the rest of us that like it the way WE want it it is more cost effective and parts abundant to do our pc thing.
MM ... if mac is not worried about trying to suck PC users to their market then why would they intergrate intell and what ever program it is you use to run windows on your mac. Seems they are trying a bit too hard for me. hehe lol ... all in fun bud..

And your point about tire changing is......what exactly? What kind of twerp gets sweaty and dirty (or wet and frozen, depending on time of year) and risks getting clobbered by other cars passing by or risks getting squished by a car falling off its jacks, just to change a tire? Oh yeah, the minimum wage guys I call through my AAA membership to do it for me. Oooooh, but then, the $ I spend annually for me, the wife, and now the oldest daughter for AAA COULD be used instead to buy a replacement video card with 10 Mb more memory, another noisy fan, and 2 MHz faster rate than the one that came with my computer. Yep, it's all about choices. Notice I didn't use the M word here. I said I'd back off, but you guys make it soooooo hard.

lol red. Must be nice to be in the bucks. Us poor people are used to having to do it ourselves. and were do you get AAA coverage that cheap? I can replace my vid card for under 100 bucks and more than double the memory and speed of the card. and dont have to have to pay some one to do it for me. Notice I didnt say the W word, lol keep it coming buddy hehe

Keep it civil guys! We're only talking about what computer you use, not something important like what brand of motorcycle you ride (Honda Rules!).

Everything I say here, or at least almost everything, has some sarcasm, irony, humor, or wit (I hope, I hope, LOL) in it, so don't take everything exactly as stated. I try to illustrate absurdity with absurdity (the big guy stole my best lines, you know, with one hand tied behind his back), so of course, the "upgrade" on the vid card example was a bit......exaggerated!
As for trying to change tires, I did that when I was a teenager and foolish. Now I do my best not to. It just takes too long. Someday I'll tell the story of trying to put a ball on my hitch on my truck (took 1.5 hours). I think I'll stick with what I do best, OK?
