Never ask what kind of computer a person uses--if it's a Mac, he'll say; if not, why embarrass him?

Man, do the new iMacs look good! Lamron says "they make them shiny and prety to attract the ADD'ers." And others say, in effect, good looks don't matter, the "extra" cost of a Mac isn't worth it, and Macs aren't easier to use. Hee Hee Hee. Straight from the Wall Street Journal, Jan. 04, 2008, page A1, above the fold! Posted here in parts, for your reading pleasure (couldn't find on-line link, so I scanned it all from the actual print paper). some key quotes: "Unlike Apple, famous for its easy-to-use operating system and other original programs, PC makers largely rely on Microsoft Corp. for the underlying software." "Rather, Apple's forte has been to create synergies among its hardware, software, and retail stores in order to make its cool machines more au courant and simpler to use." "I have a PC as well, but I find Macs more distinctive.....It's the wow factor, and PCs just can't master that." ".....more attractive (PC) models could command $150 to $250 more per machine." "With better prices and profit margins than its competitors, Apple can simply pay suppliers for design changes such as shrinking a circuit board..." "Apple has infused its products with style, says Barry Goffe, director of product management at Microsoft." (bolding added) Simply better. Simply Mac. You're welcome!

Hillary and Obama are commanding head lines too, doesn't mean they are right just because they made the front page.

There's obviously a market for those designs because Apple is making millions catering to it. So its no suprise that PC's want to get a bit of that money. But that is just one demographic. Personally, I DON'T want my computer to be stylish. I want my monitor and componants to be as minimal as possible in flat black or dark grey. I not interested in looking AT my computer. I want to look INTO the world behind the screen and be able to ignore the hardware that supports it.
I know that there are specific applications where it is ideal, but the computer built into the monitor literally makes me shiver in horror. The limitations of that design give me goosebumps. For one thing, my five year old computer wouldn't be running the new 28" screen it has now!

A store boughten PC can't do the wow factor....my dad walked in to my house the other day..came into where my computer was and said"What the he** is that??"..this is mine...it still has people going HOLY SH**!..but to me..it is nothing. Dad looked at the computer I was giving him and asked.."you are kidding right?"..nope.So as PC's go it all depends what you want to put into them..same as Macs..you can get one that does nothing for ya..or buy something that says..WOW!..but like lam..i agree that the thought of not being able to change something like a monitor...because i have been looking at a 22" and 24" widescreen for me(..stupid wife..keeps giving me the look when i say it)....is very important to me..

Thanks guys. You answered in exactly the spirit I posted this in--light-hearted teasing but with all the warts and pimples obvious for those who know what to look for, and I know many of you are not a simple end-user as I am.
