HELLO Lamronians,
I am hoping that I can tap into the vast knowledge base that we have here.
I am very temp conscious after my recent meltdown. My PC is back up and running after a new MB and CPU casued to an improperly intalled heatsink/fan. I of course do not want another meltdown. My brother-in-law's execution for the improper install is scheduled for next weekend...
My question is what IDLE/LOAD temps are an average benchmark of an efficient running machine? I realize that many factors influence temps. Here is what I have: NVIDIA 6801 SLI A1 MB Intel E6850 core 2 duo processor (1333 bus, 3.0GHz) NVIDIA 8800GTS Superclocked 640MB GPU 4GB GSKILL DDR2 6400 RAM 2 Samsung 500GB SATA drives Antec 900 mid tower case Rosewill 500w stallion series PS Massive fans everywhere... top, front, side, back of case. Fans on each drive, GPU, and CPU.
I have no overclocking other than the Superclocking that was factory set on the GPU. According to the NVIDIA system monitor I am running the following temps on average.
CPU IDLE: 36C / 95F ~ LOAD: 52C / 125F
GPU IDLE: 47C / 117F ~ LOAD: 60C / 140F
SYSTEM IDLE: 29C / 84F ~ LOAD: 40C / 104F
ambient room temp ranges from 21C-25C / 70F-76F

I don't know if this helps, but those numbers are pretty close to what the server computer is when its busy. You're probably fine.

My one-piece iMac has the following info for comparison (taken from the Mac OS's Dashboard Widget iStat 4.5): My ambient temp is about 71 degrees. I don't see how the incoming air is 90 degrees, though. Putting my hand on or near the back or vents of my iMac, I feel just a little warmth, nothing like the 167 degrees that the "Mem. Controller" is seeing, according to that widget.
