I think somebody said they had a Belkin router. The box and all the spec sheets for all routers say the same thing, "We're the best, because we're better than everyone else. And our product is easy to set up."
That's a little vague. Could someone with this router check their set up menus and see if it can do these things:
Port forward a RANGE of port numbers, not just individual ports.
Packet filter by I.P. Not just block an I.P., but actually filter at the packet level.
Be able to place more than one MAC address in the DMZ.
Bandwidth prioritizing.

I have the wirless Belkin G router, I will check the specs for you and let ya know.. You want the wired version though don't you?
My router will connect up to 4 wired connections besides the wireless connections. So should work.. I will get back to ya.

Thanks for the info. I ended up ordering the Belkin F5D7230-4 from Newegg: www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833314006&Tpk=F5D7230-4I found the manual .pdf for it: belkin.httpsvc.vitalstreamcdn.com/belkin_vitalstream_com/support/dl/p74559-a_f5d7230-4_man_6-04.pdfI appears to do most of what I want, without being very expensive. Apparently, the features I want are only available on commercial network routers (big $$$). At least this one will port forward by range. If that works correctly, I shouldn't need the DMZ's. I guess I'll have to stick with the software packet filter I'm using now. These residential routers don't appear to be designed for large networks or detailed packet filtering. I'll be hard-wiring three computers plus one wireless laptop, and they each need different traffic rules. I'm so sick of this D-Link that anything has to be better. I will never buy anything that says D-Link on it again!

For what it's worth.....
Try to buy wireless routers using the ATHEROS 802.11x chipsets... They perform far better than the Broadcom based units. By performance I mean ability to overcome household coverage issues & sheer throughput, Atheros equipped routers ( 802.11g / 802.11n ) consistently turned in 40-50% higher throughput speeds over Broadcom and others. This has nothing to do with the actual Network Processing chips that are also in the enclosure that handle the routing functions via ethernet/USB.
I have called on Belkin, D-Link, Linksys, Motorola, IOGear, SMC, and most of the usual suspects in my line of work. ( their CTOs, Product marketing managers, engineers, etc) all out in California. D-Link had the smallest minds...followed by Belkin......!

Lam
It occurred to me that perhaps you would be better off with a business class router (Cisco 1600 series). They listed for 1500 bucks but you can buy them now refurbed with one year warranty for $53!
This might allow you to sculpt traffic & filter to a very granular level; slave the Belkin device off of it to serve the wireless apps. only
Just a thought The Pvt.

I have never had an issue with the Belkin I have. Maybe I am one of the lucky few.. I had and hated a linksys and a netgear.. they were crap.. took forever to set up.. and then had to unplug them and reboot the router just about every day when it would lock up.
Hope it works out well for you Lam.
