I was looking for a good antivirus, one that won't eat up my memery (not mentioning any names... ahem Norton) and that will do a fairly good job of protecting.
I always thought Norton and McAfee were the best, so i was expecting to have to sacrifice something to get the less intrusive AV. But upon some research, Norton is bottom of the line, McAfee is in the middle.
After that research I found out the BitDefender and Kaspersky are the best out there right now. I'm probably gonna get Kaspersky 7.0 unless someone has a better idea.

Whatever you get, just make sure you totally turn off your old antivirus stuff before you install and activate the new stuff. I had NAV and then my employer put in McAfee (I paid for the former, the latter is free, hence my employer's interest in pushing it on all employees, most of whom can barely use their pc's, let alone buy and install software for it), and the two apps then proceeded to fight each other for control of my pc, and the result was extremely loooooooooong processing times for simple thingsk, and even freezes and crashes. Finally, after one restart too many, I had to just disable NAV and then uninstall it and live with McAfee; I was unable to disable McAfee instead. Before that, I never had any problems with NAV (actually, Symmantec Utilities) and memory usage. No viruses, either way.

The only AV I should have is the stock AV that comes with Vista, if there even is one. I think they just have a windows defender thing. UPS should deliver my laptop in the next few hours, and the AV is the first thing I'm getting.
The computer I'm on now has NAV, and it needs to be rebooted every day or so because it slowly uses more and more memory until its using so much it takes forever to get anything done. My other computers had NAV too, cuz we got a 3 computer license, and they have all had the same issue. So I personally would advise against NAV. I have no objections to McAfee though. I just prefer top of the line to keep my computer running smooth for a long time.

I use Defender Pro. It is put out by Kaspersky and is affordable. It comes with bundled tools there is a 5 tool version and a 15 tool version. I have never had a virus yet while running it, and it eats very little memory.
You can pick it up cheap at wal mart.

I too use AVG 7.5. I have tried Norton's, McCafee, and others. IMHO you can't beat AVG.
